As a Senior Building Automation Programmer – PLC & Industrial Controls create advanced programming solutions for complex building automation, HVAC controls, and PLC-based control systems in new and existing facilities. This role supports data centers, pharmaceutical facilities, laboratories, central utility plants, and other mission-critical environments by developing reliable control logic, PLC programs, system integration programming, point mapping, functional testing documentation, and technical solutions that meet customer requirements, improve operational performance, and support successful project execution.
As a Building Automation Programmer, you will:
- Program large, complex, and custom projects using PLC-based programming platforms and control logic.
- Develop and implement PLC programs using Siemens TIA Portal, including structured control logic for mission-critical building automation and industrial control applications.
- Design, configure, and support visualization solutions, including HMI and SCADA interfaces, to provide operators with clear system status, alarms, trends, and control information.
- Provide post-sale assistance for programming labor estimating.
- Test PLC programs prior to initial release for quality assurance and functional performance.
- Create functional testing and commissioning documents utilized to validate PLC logic, system integration, and field performance.
- Support commissioning, start-up, optimization, error analysis, and troubleshooting of PLC-based automation systems in coordination with project teams and field resources.
- Document PLC software solutions, system configuration, testing results, revisions, and integration requirements to support quality control and long-term maintainability.
- Assist the Graphics Design team by coordinating dynamic point information, alarms, trends, and PLC-integrated system data into graphics.
- Collaborate with the Design Team to identify specification discrepancies, coordinate PLC integration requirements, and request clarification as needed.
- Work both independently and in team dynamics in a remote environment.
- Mentor, train, and provide technical assistance to other team members.
- Travel as needed up to 25%
You will make an impact with these qualifications:
Basic Qualifications:
- High School Diploma, or state-recognized GED.
- Demonstrated experience programming commercial building automation, HVAC, or industrial control systems using PLC-based control strategies.
- Solid knowledge of Siemens PLC programming, especially Siemens S7-1200/1500 platforms and Siemens TIA Portal.
- 5+ years of experience with structured programming methods aligned with IEC 61131-3 programming standards; ladder logic is the preferred programming language for this role.
- 5+ years of demonstrated experience with Siemens or third-party PLC platforms, control logic development, and system integration.
- Demonstrated electro-mechanical aptitude to read and understand design drawings, control schematics, sequence of operations, points lists, and construction documents.
- Ability to travel up to 25%.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office.
- Legally authorized to work in the United States on a continual and permanent basis without company sponsorship.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Associate or Bachelor's degree
- 7+ years of experience with Siemens or third-party PLC platforms, control logic development, and integrated system programming
- Demonstrated knowledge of PLC-based control systems, industrial communication protocols, and building automation system integration, including PROFINET, OPC UA, Ethernet/IP, or similar protocols based on applicable work experience
- Experience with HMI/SCADA visualization platforms, drives technology, high-level programming languages such as Python or C#/.NET, robotics, or IT security in industrial systems

The pay range for this position is $66,259 - $113,587 annually. The actual wage offered may be lower or higher depending on budget and candidate experience, knowledge, skills, qualifications, and premium geographic location.
