Corporate Development & Strategy - Director

Corporate Development & Strategy works with the Executive Office and stakeholders in the business and corporate functions to design and drive key strategic priorities for Mizuho’s Corporate and Investment Bank in the Americas region. The team’s scope of work spans many facets of the firm’s development and transformation, including firm-wide strategic planning, business-division specific growth areas (e.g., new product development, inorganic growth opportunities), process and operational improvements, and principal investment activities. The team provides support to the Executive Office and partners with the Technology division on digital innovation initiatives.

The Director will lead strategic initiatives that span multiple lines of business, products, and corporate functions. A central requirement of the role is the ability to synthesize information across a large and decentralized organization — identifying linkages, interdependencies, precedents, and prior work that are not readily visible from within any single division or region — and to translate that analysis into clear recommendations for senior decision-makers.

The role combines strategic thinking with direct execution. The Director is expected to support the Head of Strategy to originate and structure initiatives, build the supporting analysis, align stakeholders across the firm, and remain accountable through implementation. Given the team’s support of the Executive Office, the work carries significant visibility and requires sound judgment, discretion, and the ability to engage credibly with the most senior levels of the firm.

This is a leadership position within a small, project-oriented team. The team prioritizes a culture of intellectual curiosity, self-study, and professional development, and the Director is expected to set the standard in each.

Responsibilities:

- ### Contribute to and lead reporting and presentation deliverables for the Head of Strategy and the Executive Office.

- ### Evaluate and synthesi ze complex business and operational problems, including those that are ambiguous or lack an established framework; structure the analysis and propose solutions with sound and demonstrable rationale.

- ### Synthesize information and insight across business divisions, corporate functions, and regions to identify linkages, interdependencies, and relevant prior work that inform current strategic decisions.

- ### Support the alignment of Americas strategic priorities with Mizuho’s global agenda, partnering with Head Office and other regions on initiatives of cross-regional significance.

- ### Own initiatives end to end, from initial framing and business case development through stakeholder alignment, implementation planning, and delivery.

- ### Analyze prospective business opportunities, cost optimization initiatives, and principal investment activity, and develop independent insights and takeaways.

- ### Continuously analyze market data and external sources to identify competitive insights and market intelligence, and assess the implications for the firm.

- ### Develop and mentor junior and mid-level colleagues, and contribute to the overall capability and effectiveness of the team.

Qualifications and Skills:

- ### 7+ years of prior investment banking/markets, management consulting, or in-house strategy experience, with a strong preference for prior roles in financial services.

- ### Experience leading projects, workstreams, or teams, including responsibility for the development of others.

- ### Understanding of the CIB landscape, its clients, and its products, as well as the operating environment of a large foreign banking institution.

- ### Experience working across a global or multi-regional organization, with the ability to navigate differing regional practices and cross-border decision-making.

- ### Demonstrated ability to review and synthesize qualitative and quantitative information across disparate sources and form independent judgments without extensive direction.

- ### Capable of tackling complex problems that are often ambiguous and may not have a clear framework or template to follow.

- ### Comfortable with significant individual responsibility and an expectation to proactively create value for the team and firm.

- ### Comfortable interacting with senior leadership and colleagues at all levels with confidence and discretion.

The expected base salary ranges from $200,000.00. - $250,000.00. Salary offers are based on a wide range of factors including relevant skills, training, experience, education, and, where applicable, certifications and licenses obtained. Market and organizational factors are also considered. In addition to salary and a generous employee benefits package, including but not limited to Medical, Dental and 401k that begin on day one of employment, successful candidates are also eligible to receive a discretionary bonus.
