Position Summary
The Field Safety Coordinator is responsible for providing safety leadership and compliance oversight across Tri-State General Contractors' active jobsites throughout California, Hawaii, Arizona, Nevada, New Mexico, Texas, Utah, and Colorado. This role works closely with the Safety & Compliance Team, General Superintendents, Field Superintendents, Project Managers, subcontractors, and customer representatives to proactively identify hazards, reduce risk, ensure regulatory compliance, and promote safe work practices. The Field Safety Coordinator serves as a visible safety resource in the field and is expected to lead by example, coach employees and subcontractors, and provide practical safety solutions that support both compliance and project production goals.
Key Responsibilities
- Support Week Zero Jobsite planning, pre-construction meetings, and project startup activities.
- Conduct routine and unscheduled safety inspections, audits, and jobsite hazard assessments.
- Verify compliance with OSHA regulations, Tri-State safety policies, customer requirements, and site-specific safety plans.
- Assist project teams with the development and implementation of Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs).
- Support the implementation and enforcement of company and customer safety and compliance programs.
- Deliver and coordinate safety training for employees and subcontractors.
- Participate in weekly toolbox talks, safety meetings, and superintendent meetings.
- Assist with incident response, accident and near-miss investigations, root-cause analysis, corrective action tracking, and follow-up.
- Prepare detailed inspection reports and effectively communicate findings and recommendations to project leadership.
- Assist with maintaining OSHA logs, safety records, training documentation, and compliance databases.
- Monitor subcontractor safety performance and recommend corrective actions when deficiencies are identified.
- Support SWPPP compliance and environmental requirements on applicable projects.
- Champion Tri-State's Safety Champions Program and employee safety engagement initiatives.
- Serve as a field liaison between Operations and the Safety & Compliance Department.
- Coach employees and subcontractors on safe work practices and reinforce safety expectations in the field.
- Proactively identify emerging safety concerns and provide practical solutions that support both compliance and production goals.
- Maintain a professional and positive presence while promoting Tri-State's “Safety First, Family Always” culture.
Qualifications & Experience
- A minimum of 3 years of construction safety experience in commercial construction, retail remodels, industrial construction, or multi-trade environments.
- Current OSHA 30-Hour Construction Certification.
- Current First Aid/CPR/AED Certification.
- Experience conducting:
Safety inspections and audits
- Jobsite hazard assessments
- Incident and near-miss investigations
- Corrective action tracking and follow-up
- Strong knowledge of OSHA regulations and construction safety best practices.
- Proficiency with Microsoft 365 applications, including Outlook, Word, Excel, Teams, and SharePoint.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to prepare professional reports and safety documentation.
- Ability to effectively communicate and work with employees, subcontractors, superintendents, project managers, customers, and leadership.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills with the ability to manage responsibilities across multiple active projects.
- Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
- Must be able and willing to travel to jobsites throughout California, Hawaii, Arizona, Nevada, New Mexico, Texas, Utah, and Colorado.
- Must be able to work flexible schedules, including occasional night shifts, weekends, and overnight travel, based on project needs.
- Ability to work in active commercial construction, retail remodel, industrial, and service environments.
- Ability to walk active jobsites, climb ladders, access roofs, enter confined areas, and navigate uneven terrain.
- Ability to work independently in the field while maintaining strong communication with the Safety & Compliance and Operations teams.
