Position Summary
The Family/Victim Advocate provides information and case management to victims of child abuse and neglect and their families, including assistance in applying for Victim’s Compensation and referrals for and assistance in
obtaining other needed services . They are the primary case coordinator for the Children Advocacy Center (CAC). The Family/Victim Advocate is the primary interface with children and caregivers, who come to the CAC.
Key Responsibilities
- Greet alleged victims and families, assists the non-offending legal guardians with necessary paperwork and provides caregiver with the parent resource packet.
- Provide supervision to children, if not accompanied by a caregiver.
- Provide information and case management to alleged victims of child abuse and neglect and their families, including assistance in applying for Victim’s Compensation and referrals for and assistance in obtaining other needed services.
- Follows up with caregivers to determine if further services are needed and provide emotional support.
- Follow up on services identified as needed for victims or families during Multidisciplinary Team Meetings.
- Collect referral/case demographic information from caregivers and referring agencies and records required case information in the Collaborate database.
- Coordinate appointments and medical exam schedules. Attends forensic medical exam appointments as needed by the family.
- Attend trainings and conferences in child abuse maltreatment to meet NCA Standards.
- Attend monthly Multidisciplinary team case review meetings.
- Assemble parent resource packets .
Qualifications
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Social Work or a related field or two years of prior experience providing services to alleged abused children and their families. LMSW preferred.
- Victim Advocacy Training Certificate
Experience & Skills
- Use of Windows-based equipment (laptop, tablet) and Apple IOS based equipment (iPad, iPhone).
- Office 365: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint.
- Funder-based applications as needed.
- Strong communication skills, time management skills, enjoys being around children and adults; healthy boundaries; strong organizational skills and ability to meet deadlines in urgent situations.
