Purpose:

We are seeking a motivated Civil/Structural Engineer Intern to support our Reading, Pennsylvania office and contribute to projects across the power generation and power networks sectors. Working alongside experienced engineers and designers, you will gain practical exposure to the analysis, design, and documentation of civil and structural systems that support reliable energy infrastructure. This internship offers an opportunity to apply classroom knowledge in a collaborative, safety-focused project environment.

Responsibilities:

- Assist with civil and structural engineering calculations, analyses, and design tasks under the guidance of licensed or experienced engineers.
- Support the development of drawings, specifications, reports, technical notes, and other project deliverables.
- Contribute to the design of foundations, equipment supports, steel and concrete structures, site features, and related infrastructure for power generation and power network facilities.
- Review vendor information, design criteria, codes, standards, and project requirements for incorporation into engineering work.
- Coordinate with electrical, mechanical, piping, instrumentation, project controls, and design teams to support integrated project delivery.
- Assist with quantity takeoffs, field data review, design checks, and document control activities.
- Participate in project meetings, design reviews, and technical discussions; document action items as assigned.
- Support site visits or field assignments, when required, while following all health, safety, security, and environmental requirements.
- Perform work accurately, ask questions, manage assigned priorities, and communicate progress to the project team.

What you will bring
Technical/Industry Experience and Qualifications Requirements:

- Completion of foundational coursework in statics, mechanics of materials, structural analysis, reinforced concrete, steel design, geotechnical engineering, or related subjects.
- Basic understanding of engineering principles and an interest in power generation, substations, transmission, distribution, or other energy infrastructure.
- Ability to interpret technical information, perform calculations, and communicate findings clearly.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Excel and Word.
- Strong written and verbal communication, organization, teamwork, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work from the Reading, Pennsylvania office on the schedule established for the internship.
- Exposure to AutoCAD, Civil 3D, Revit, MicroStation, STAAD.Pro, RISA, SAP2000, Mathcad, or similar engineering and design software.
- Familiarity with structural materials, foundations, site development, drainage, grading, or utility coordination.
- Awareness of applicable building codes and civil/structural design standards.

Education – Qualifications, Accreditation, Training:

Required:

- Currently pursuing a bachelor’s or master’s degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or a closely related discipline from an accredited institution.

Preferred:

- Previous internship, co-op, research, design team, or academic project experience related to civil or structural engineering.
