Job Title: Assistant Project Manager Substation Construction Job Description
The Assistant Project Manager Substation provides critical project support by planning, organizing, and applying project management principles to electrical infrastructure construction projects. Working under direct supervision, this role helps ensure that substation and transmission projects are delivered safely, efficiently, and in alignment with business goals. The position requires an understanding of how the construction business operates, how to respond to changing circumstances, and how to engage the right internal and external stakeholders for support. Success in this role relies on strong communication skills, the ability to work independently and collaboratively, consistently meet deadlines, and proactively anticipate and support internal customer needs.
Responsibilities
- Promote and maintain a strong safety culture, ensuring compliance with all safety and environmental policies, procedures, and regulations.
- Assist Project Managers in managing substation and transmission construction projects under direct supervision.
- Support the development and tracking of project performance metrics, budgets, and cost controls.
- Assist with cost tracking, labor tracking, scheduling, and project reporting to keep stakeholders informed.
- Coordinate with field crews, subcontractors, engineers, and utility stakeholders to support effective project execution.
- Support material procurement, submittal processes, and equipment tracking to ensure timely delivery and availability.
- Assist with subcontractor management and monitor contract compliance throughout the project lifecycle.
- Maintain project documentation, including cost reporting, billing, scheduling, and budgeting records.
- Assist with federal and state agency correspondence and reporting as required for project compliance.
- Help maintain and update project schedules under supervision, identifying and communicating potential impacts.
- Participate in construction-related meetings to support project coordination and resolve issues.
- Assist in proposal preparation, including estimating and quantity take-offs for upcoming projects.
- Provide onsite administrative and project support during long-term project assignments.
- Assist with change management processes, productivity tracking, and project closeout activities.
- Perform other duties as assigned to support successful project delivery.
Essential Skills
- Bachelors degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Project Management, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- 03 years of related experience, preferably in substation, electrical, or utility construction.
- Proficiency with the Microsoft Office Suite for documentation, reporting, and analysis.
- Valid drivers license with an acceptable driving record.
- Ability to travel and commit to long-term onsite project assignments.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills for effective interaction with project teams and stakeholders.
- Demonstrated initiative, adaptability, and willingness to learn and grow within a dynamic project environment.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience with job cost tracking or estimating software is a plus.
- Exposure to substation, transmission, or electrical infrastructure projects is beneficial.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with field crews, subcontractors, engineers, and utility representatives.
- Strong attention to detail in maintaining project documentation and records.
- Interest in building a career in construction project management and electrical infrastructure delivery.
Work Environment
This role is based on an active project site in Bowling Green, Ohio, supporting substation and transmission construction activities. The work environment is field-oriented and fast-paced, with daily interaction among construction crews, subcontractors, engineers, and utility stakeholders. The position involves long-term onsite assignments, regular coordination in construction meetings, and adherence to robust safety and environmental practices. Work is performed in a professional construction setting with a strong emphasis on safety, reliability, and quality in delivering electrical infrastructure projects.
Job Type & Location
This is a Contract position based out of Uniontown, OH.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $31.25 - $45.67/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
