Environmental Engineer – Air Quality Compliance
Arclin is seeking an Environmental Engineer – Air Quality Compliance to join our Corporate Environmental team. Reporting to the Global Director of Environmental, this role will serve as a technical resource and subject matter expert supporting Arclin manufacturing facilities across North America and internationally.
The Environmental Engineer – Air Quality Compliance will provide technical leadership and guidance to facilities on air quality compliance, permitting, emissions management, and regulatory requirements. This role will partner closely with site EHS, operations, engineering, sustainability and leadership teams to identify environmental risks, develop practical solutions, and strengthen Arclins global environmental programs.
This position has no direct reports and requires the ability to lead through technical expertise, collaboration, and influence.
Environmental Engineer – Air Quality Compliance Job Responsibilities
- Serve as a corporate subject matter expert for air quality compliance, providing technical guidance to manufacturing facilities and leadership.
- Partner with facilities to develop, implement, and maintain effective air quality compliance strategies and programs.
- Interpret and communicate applicable national, regional, provincial/state, and local air quality regulations and requirements across Arclins global operations.
- Provide technical support for air permitting activities, including new permits, permit renewals, modifications, amendments, and regulatory applicability determinations.
- Provide technical guidance on regulatory applicability, source classification, emissions limits, monitoring requirements, testing, and compliance demonstration strategies.
- Review and support air emissions calculations, emissions inventories, reporting, recordkeeping, and compliance certifications.
- Support facilities with the evaluation and implementation of air pollution control technologies and operational controls, in partnership with engineering and operations.
- Conduct environmental compliance assessments and audits, with an emphasis on identifying air quality compliance risks and opportunities for improvement.
- Support facilities in the investigation and resolution of environmental compliance issues, including regulatory inquiries, notices of violation, exceedances, and other potential noncompliance.
- Lead or support investigation of environmental incidents or compliance events, including root cause analysis and development of corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
- Develop and improve corporate environmental standards, procedures, tools, guidance, and training related to air quality compliance.
- Establish and maintain systems to improve consistency and visibility of air compliance requirements across Arclins global operations.
- Provide technical oversight and support for environmental projects associated with new equipment, process changes, facility expansions, and capital projects.
- Collaborate with Engineering, Operations, and site EHS teams to evaluate environmental impacts and compliance requirements associated with process and equipment changes.
- Monitor emerging environmental regulations and industry developments and communicate potential business impacts and required actions to appropriate stakeholders.
- Identify, develop, and track environmental performance metrics and leading indicators related to air quality compliance.
- Support Arclins Journey to Zero through continuous improvement, risk reduction, and effective environmental management systems.
- Provide technical support and mentorship to site EHS professionals on air quality compliance matters.
- Participate in cross-functional and global environmental initiatives as needed.
Environmental Engineer – Air Quality Compliance Job Requirements
- Bachelors degree in Environmental Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a related STEM discipline.
- 7+ years of experience in environmental engineering, air quality compliance, and/or environmental permitting within a manufacturing or industrial environment.
- Strong knowledge of air quality regulations, permitting requirements, emissions calculations, and compliance management.
- Experience supporting complex air permitting and regulatory compliance programs, including review of air dispersion modeling and associated regulatory requirements.
- Experience with air emissions inventories, emissions calculations, compliance reporting, and regulatory recordkeeping.
- Experience with air pollution control equipment and technologies.
- Experience working across multiple facilities, jurisdictions, or regulatory frameworks preferred.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and technical writing skills.
- Detail-oriented with the ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including advanced Excel skills.
- Ability to build and maintain collaborative working relationships with plant leadership, EHS professionals, production supervisors, operators, maintenance personnel, and engineering teams.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to influence and drive action without direct authority.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred.
- Experience with PSM/RMP-regulated facilities preferred. Experience supporting Title V facilities and permitting activities involving NESHAP, NSPS, emissions inventories, and regulatory applicability analyses.
- Experience with ISO14001 preferred.
- Willingness to travel approximately 50%, including domestic and international travel, as business needs require.
- Must be available to provide technical support for environmental incidents or urgent compliance matters outside normal business hours, as required.
- Ability to work safely in a manufacturing environment. This may include standing for extended periods and occasionally bending, crouching, stooping, rotating, climbing stairs, and lifting up to 50 lbs., or any combination of the aforementioned activities.
The salary range for this position since remote is $91,000.00 to $140,000.00. Actual pay will be determined based on qualifications, skills, experience, and other job-related factors. Plus Bonus.
