Environmental Engineer – Water & Waste Compliance

Arclin is seeking an Environmental Engineer – Water & Waste Compliance to join our Corporate Environmental team. Reporting to the Global Director of Environmental, this role will serve as a technical resource and subject matter expert supporting Arclin manufacturing facilities across North America and internationally.

The Environmental Engineer – Water & Waste Compliance will provide technical leadership and guidance to facilities on water and waste compliance, permitting, management, and regulatory requirements. This role will partner closely with site EHS, operations, engineering, sustainability, and leadership teams to identify environmental risks, develop practical solutions, and strengthen Arclins global environmental programs.

Experience supporting multi-site manufacturing operations with NPDES, wastewater treatment, stormwater permitting, and hazadous waste compliance programs preferred.

This position has no direct reports and requires the ability to lead through technical expertise, collaboration, and influence.

Environmental Engineer – Water & Waste Compliance Job Responsibilities

- Serve as a corporate subject matter expert for water discharge and waste disposal compliance, providing technical guidance to manufacturing facilities and leadership.

- Partner with facilities to develop, implement, and maintain effective water and waste compliance strategies and programs.

- Interpret and communicate applicable national, regional, provincial/state, and local environmental regulations and requirements across Arclins global operations.

- Provide technical support for wastewater permitting activities, including NPDES, POTW, stormwater, permit renewals, modifications, amendments, and regulatory applicability determinations.

- Provide technical guidance on wastewater discharge requirements, effluent limitations, monitoring requirements, sampling, testing, and pretreatment requirements.

- Provide technical guidance on stormwater compliance, including permit or NEC requirements, inspections, monitoring, sampling, stormwater BMPs, SWPPP implementation, and corrective actions.

- Review and provide technical support related to wastewater treatment and monitoring data, discharge calculations, DMRs, and recordkeeping.

- Provide technical guidance on hazardous, universal, and non-hazardous waste management, including waste characterization, storage, labeling, accumulation, manifesting, transportation, disposal, and regulatory recordkeeping.

- Support facilities in evaluating waste minimization, recycling, reuse, and disposal strategies and identifying opportunities to reduce environmental risk and cost.

- Conduct environmental compliance assessments and audits, with an emphasis on identifying water discharge and waste disposal compliance risks and opportunities for improvement.

- Support facilities in the investigation and resolution of environmental compliance issues, including regulatory inquiries, notices of violation, exceedances, spills, and other potential noncompliance.

- Lead or support investigation of environmental incidents or compliance events, including root cause analysis and development of corrective actions to prevent recurrence.

- Develop and improve corporate environmental standards, procedures, tools, guidance, and training related to water and waste compliance.

- Establish and maintain systems to improve consistency and visibility of water and waste compliance requirements across Arclins global operations.

- Provide technical oversight and support for environmental projects associated with new equipment, process changes, facility expansions, and capital projects.

- Collaborate with Engineering, Operations, and site EHS teams to evaluate water and waste impacts and compliance requirements associated with process and equipment changes.

- Monitor emerging environmental regulations and industry developments and communicate potential business impacts and required actions to appropriate stakeholders.

- Identify, develop, and track environmental performance metrics and leading indicators related to water and waste compliance.

- Support Arclins Journey to Zero through continuous improvement, risk reduction, and effective environmental management systems.

- Provide technical support and mentorship to site EHS professionals on water and waste compliance matters.

- Participate in cross-functional and global environmental initiatives as needed.

Environmental Engineer – Water & Waste Compliance Job Requirements

- Bachelors degree in Environmental Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a related STEM discipline.

- 7+ years of experience in environmental engineering, water/wastewater compliance, waste management, and/or environmental permitting within a manufacturing or industrial environment.

- Strong knowledge of wastewater, stormwater, and waste regulations, permitting requirements, and compliance management.

- Experience supporting NPDES, POTW, and stormwater compliance programs.

- Experience with wastewater monitoring, sampling, data evaluation, compliance reporting, and regulatory recordkeeping.

- Experience with hazardous, universal, and non-hazardous waste management, including waste characterization and regulatory requirements.

- Experience supporting complex environmental permitting and regulatory compliance programs.

- Experience working across multiple facilities, jurisdictions, or regulatory frameworks preferred.

- Experience with waste minimization, recycling, or environmental sustainability initiatives preferred.

- Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred.

- Experience with ISO 14001 preferred.

- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and technical writing skills.

- Detail-oriented with the ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced environment.

- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including advanced Excel skills.

- Ability to build and maintain collaborative working relationships with plant leadership, EHS professionals, production supervisors, operators, maintenance personnel, and engineering teams.

- Strong communication skills and the ability to influence and drive action without direct authority.

- Willingness to travel approximately 50%, including domestic and international travel, as business needs require. Must be available to provide technical support for environmental incidents or urgent compliance matters outside normal business hours, as required.

- Ability to work safely in a manufacturing environment. This may include standing for extended periods and occasionally bending, crouching, stooping, rotating, climbing stairs, and lifting up to 50 lbs., or any combination of the aforementioned activities.

The anticipated base salary range for this position is $91,000 – $140,000. Actual compensation will be determined based on experience, skills, and location.
