Job Title: Entry Level Mechanical Engineer Job Description The Mechanical Engineer will join the engineering technician team to prototype new door systems in a laboratory environment while using SolidWorks to design, modify, and correct components and assemblies. This role combines hands-on mechanical work with drafting and documentation, making it an excellent opportunity for recent graduates with a strong mechanical background who are looking to start their engineering career. Responsibilities
- Prototype new door designs in the test lab, assembling components and systems according to engineering prints and specifications.
- Perform approximately 75% of daily work on prototype assembly and testing activities in the lab environment.
- Use SolidWorks for approximately 25% of daily work to create, update, and revise 3D models and engineering drawings.
- Review, interpret, and mark up engineering prints to identify necessary changes, corrections, and improvements.
- Document design changes and prototype results using Excel and other tracking tools to maintain accurate records.
- Collaborate with engineering team members to refine designs based on test outcomes and mechanical performance.
- Ensure prototypes are built accurately, safely, and in alignment with established engineering standards and procedures.
- Troubleshoot mechanical issues during prototype assembly and recommend practical design or process adjustments.
- Maintain an organized work area in both the lab and at the desk, ensuring tools, parts, and documentation are properly managed.
- Support continuous improvement of door designs by providing detailed feedback from lab testing and assembly activities.
Essential Skills
- Engineering or technical background with strong mechanical aptitude beyond general assembly work.
- Proficiency in SolidWorks, including comfort with creating and modifying models and drawings.
- Ability to read, interpret, and mark up engineering prints and technical drawings accurately.
- Competence using Excel for tracking, recording, and organizing prototype and design data.
- Strong attention to detail and thoroughness in both lab assembly and design documentation.
- Capability to perform hands-on mechanical assembly work in a test lab environment.
- Effective problem-solving skills to identify and address mechanical and design issues during prototyping.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Bachelors or Associate degree in engineering or a related technical field, including recent graduates.
- Comfort working with mechanical systems, tools, and hardware in a lab setting.
- Interest in product development, prototyping, and iterative design improvement.
Work Environment This role offers a mix of lab-based assembly work and desk-based design work, with approximately 75% of time spent in the test lab assembling and testing door prototypes and 25% spent at a desk using SolidWorks and Excel. The environment combines hands-on mechanical tasks with computer-aided design and documentation. Employees work with standard lab tools, mechanical components, and engineering software in a professional, collaborative setting focused on product development and continuous improvement.

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $30.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
