Position Summary

The Senior Quality Engineer serves as the primary quality resource for Solon Technology Center (STC) Custom Solutions. The role owns local quality operations and issue management, including inspections, nonconformance disposition, containment, investigations, returns support, Layered Process Audit administration, and internal quality reviews. The position applies independent engineering judgment to protect product conformity, support timely resolution, and reduce operational risk.

Beyond local execution, the role partners with the Global Custom Solutions team by providing technical quality expertise and operational input in support of quality governance, process standardization, capability development, certification compliance, corrective action rigor, and continuous improvement. The Global Custom Solutions team retains governance ownership; this position supports implementation and effectiveness through subject matter expertise and local experience.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

1. Quality Operations & Issue Management - STC Custom Solutions Ownership

•  Serve as the primary point of contact for quality-related issues within STC Custom Solutions.

•  Perform and document incoming, in-process, final, and special inspections as required; interpret drawings, specifications, acceptance criteria, and applicable quality requirements.

•  Lead containment activities and investigations associated with internal captures, customer concerns, supplier issues, third-party processing issues, and product returns.

•  Own the disposition, tracking, and closure of Quality Notifications (QNs), nonconformances (NCs), and related quality records, escalating decisions when required.

•  Work with the Returns Group when returns occur, supporting investigation, root cause identification, corrective action, and timely closure.

•  Maintain the monthly Internal Captures database; schedule and lead quality review meetings to identify trends, recurring issues, actions, owners, and follow-through.

•  Provide direct technical support to Engineering Services and Custom Solutions team members during quality events.

•  Partner with Engineering, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, and Quality resources to resolve product and process concerns.

2. Quality Systems & Process Support - Global Custom Solutions Partnership

•  Support the Global Custom Solutions team in the application and continuous improvement of quality governance, standards, and common processes; governance ownership remains with the global team.

•  Manage or support CEDAC and other controlled-document changes to ensure accurate, coordinated implementation of process updates.

•  Support proper interpretation and application of ProFITs, policies, approvals, and related quality requirements.

•  Own administration and execution of the STC Custom Solutions Layered Process Audit (LPA) program, and provide results and operational learning to the Global Custom Solutions team.

•  Review routing steps, inspection points, and process controls; recommend standardization and corrections for consistency and accuracy.

•  Support alignment of Custom Solutions practices with SSC QMR expectations and SSC audit requirements as directed by the Global Custom Solutions team.

•  Support Certified Process (CP) certification records, compliance requirements, and audit readiness.

3. Continuous Improvement & Risk Reduction - Global Custom Solutions Support

•  Use inspection results, internal captures, QNs, NCs, returns, audit findings, and other quality data to identify trends and prioritize risk reduction.

•  Support capability requests by identifying quality gaps, inspection needs, control requirements, and risks associated with factory capabilities, equipment use, or process changes.

•  Help transition Custom Solutions work from experience-based execution to documented, repeatable, and process-driven methods.

•  Provide technical review and recommendations for SSC corrective actions when requested by the Global Custom Solutions team, including evaluation of root cause, action adequacy, and effectiveness.

•  Support Operational Excellence and Fabrication Essentials by incorporating quality discipline, lessons learned, and risk-based controls into program content and implementation.

•  Lead or participate in disciplined problem solving and corrective or preventive actions within assigned scope.

4. Technical Quality Expertise & Organizational Support

•  Serve as a technical quality subject matter expert for Custom Solutions, providing guidance, decision support, and escalation assistance for complex or ambiguous conditions.

•  Provide recommendations for product acceptance, nonconformance disposition, deviations, inspection methods, and quality risk decisions within delegated authority.

•  Support development and application of new Certified Processes and associated quality controls in partnership with the Global Custom Solutions team and appropriate technical resources.

•  Coach and train associates on inspection requirements, quality tools, root cause analysis, corrective action, and process discipline.

•  Provide backup coverage for critical inspection and quality support activities during transitions or resource constraints.

•  Lead moderate to large quality improvement projects and communicate status, risks, decisions, and results to stakeholders.

Education and/or Work Experience Requirements

Required

- Four-year degree in Engineering, Quality, Manufacturing, or a related technical field, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience consistent with Swagelok requirements.
- 7 years of experience
- Demonstrated experience in quality engineering, manufacturing quality, inspection, or a related technical role.
- Working knowledge of quality planning and control, nonconformance management, inspection methods, corrective action, auditing, and risk-based problem solving.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, routings, and acceptance criteria.
- Ability to independently solve complex problems, manage multiple priorities, and make sound technical recommendations.
- Strong written and verbal communication, facilitation, training, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
- Strong computer and data analysis skills, including the ability to organize and evaluate quality information.

Preferred

•  Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering or a quality-related discipline.

•  Experience with custom fabrication, engineered-to-order assemblies, manufacturing operations, or fluid system products.

•  ASQ Certified Quality Engineer, Certified Quality Auditor, or comparable certification prefered.

•  Experience with Lean, Six Sigma, Operational Excellence, statistical methods, or advanced problem-solving tools.

•  Experience supporting quality management systems, internal audits, LPAs, certified processes, and corrective action systems.
