Job Summary:

The College of Engineering invites applications for a full-time (1.00 FTE), 12-month, fixed-term Research Associate position.  Reappointment is at the discretion of the Department Head .

The Research Associate will contribute to a research project focused on developing mathematical and computational methods for memory-efficient implementation of large language models and foundation models. Responsibilities include theoretical analysis, algorithm development, computational experimentation, software implementation, and preparation of technical reports and publications.

Qualifications:

Required Qualifications:

- PhD in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mathematics, Applied Mathematics, Statistics, or a related field.
- Strong background in machine learning, optimization, applied mathematics, or related theoretical areas.
- Experience with scientific programming and computational research.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience working effectively with diverse groups of researchers and students

Preferred Qualifications:

- Research experience in machine learning theory, optimization, random matrix theory, complexity theory, high-dimensional probability, or related areas.
- Experience with large language models, deep learning, or efficient AI methods.
- Experience developing rigorous theoretical guarantees and conducting large-scale computational experiments.
- Experience with GPU computing and modern ML software frameworks.
- Publication record in machine learning, optimization, applied mathematics, or theoretical computer science.

# Working Conditions/Schedule:
Work is performed in an office or computer laboratory environment.

Salary Range:

Salary is commensurate with skills, education, and experience.
