Job Description:

This recruitment will be used to fill four part-time (a maximum of 24 hours per week) TRIO SSS Peer Mentor (OSU-Cascades) Student for the TRIO SSS at Oregon State University (OSU) - Cascades.

TRIO SSS Peer Mentors support TRIO participants as they navigate college life and develop connections to the OSU-Cascades community. Peer Mentors help create a welcoming and supportive environment, assist students with their academic and social transition to college, connect students with campus resources, and encourage participation in TRIO programs, activities, and events. Peer Mentors also play an important role in supporting incoming students during the TRIO SSS Summer Bridge Program.

Position Duties:

- Meet regularly with assigned TRIO SSS students and provide peer support throughout the academic year.
- Participate in TRIO SSS Peer Mentor meetings, trainings, and professional development.
- Assist with planning and facilitating TRIO workshops, activities, and student events.
- Help students identify and connect with appropriate OSU-Cascades resources and services.
- Encourage student participation and engagement with TRIO SSS and the OSU-Cascades community.
- Participate in the TRIO SSS Summer Bridge Program and support incoming students during their transition to OSU-Cascades.
- Assist with TRIO outreach, program evaluation, and other program activities as needed.

Qualifications:

- Must be academically enrolled in a high school, community college, or university and pursuing a program or course of study
- Must meet Academic Standing Requirements; students on academic suspension are not eligible for employment
- Must meet the applicable minimal enrollment standard High School student: Regularly enrolled in a high school or participating in a home-schooling program
- Undergraduate and post-baccalaureate student: 6 credit hours per term
- Undergraduate international student: 12 credit hours per term*
- Graduate student officially admitted to Graduate School: 5 credit hours per term
- Graduate international student officially admitted to Graduate School: 9 credit hours per term*

*International students may be allowed to carry fewer hours than specified above and still be considered “full-time” by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). A reduced course load is approved by the Office of International Services (OIS) and must be provided to the Student Employment Center.

Required Qualifications:

- Must be a current OSU TRIO student.
- Must have experience working with or supporting students from diverse backgrounds.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to serve as a positive and supportive peer resource for students.
- Ability to participate in required Peer Mentor meetings, trainings, and TRIO activities.

Preferred Qualifications:

- Previous participation in TRIO or another college access/student support program.
- Previous mentoring, leadership, tutoring, or student support experience.
- Demonstrated commitment to creating an inclusive and welcoming environment.
- Minimum 2.50 cumulative GPA preferred.

# Working Conditions/Schedule:
• Part-time student position supporting TRIO Student Support Services participants at OSU-Cascades.

• Work will primarily take place on the OSU-Cascades campus and may include participation in TRIO events and activities. Work schedule will vary based on student availability and program needs.
