About this role

St. Luke's Health System has an exciting new opportunity for an experienced Lab Assistant to join our Boise Anatomic Cytology Services team in a full-time Lab Assistant 3 position! The Lab Assistant 3 is responsible for the pre-analytical processing of laboratory specimens AND/OR for the procurement and preparation of laboratory specimens for testing. Performs tasks and tests under limited supervision and acts as a mentor to all team members.

What You Can Expect:

- Transcribe laboratory testing orders in an efficient and accurate manner.
- Ensure specimens are properly identified, labeled, collected, and stored.
- Advanced specimen processing. - Distribute or track specimens to the appropriate areas of the laboratory for testing.
- Advanced knowledge of specimen collections from individuals of varying ages, diverse physical and mental disabilities, and health conditions.
- Proficient in performing Point of Care Testing (POCT), if applicable to the site.
- Explain collection procedures and provide patient instructions to ensure the accurate collection or preparation of specimens, to facilitate patient/caregiver understanding, and to reduce patient anxiety. Handle moderate patient complications and address basic patient concerns.
- May act as a resource for other team members on advanced tasks, complex questions, and/or patient concerns.
- Complies with established personal protective equipment requirements necessary for protection against exposure to blood and other potentially infectious body fluids.
- Maintains a safe and clean working environment
- May register patients or provide courier services.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

- Education: High school diploma or equivalent. - Experience: 2 years experience.
- Licenses/Certifications: None.
