About this role

Overview

the Nurse Technician I, Inpatient is responsible for providing technical assistance and supportive patient care throughout assigned areas. The incumbent supports patient mobility, hygiene, and ensures safe transport during appointments. Responsibilities also include maintaining a clean and organized care environment. This position reviews patient records and protocols each shift, prioritizes care needs in collaboration with licensed nurses and interdisciplinary staff; and accurately documents patient status and changes in condition. This role may collect, label, and transport laboratory specimens per Institute standards. Duties are performed as delegated by licensed nurses in accordance with the Nursing Department’s Permissive Procedure List , the Maryland Board of Nursing Nurse Practice Act, and the professional judgment of licensed nurses.

Responsibilities

- Reviews the electronic medical records and interdisciplinary protocols for assigned patients at the beginning of every shift and under the direction of a licensed nurse.

- Prioritizes work schedules in collaboration with the licensed nurse to accommodate the needs of assigned patients and the efficient functioning of the unit.

- Provides direct patient physical care, including patients’ personal hygiene, consistent with the patients’ levels of adaptive skills.

- Ambulates, positions, turns, and cares for patients with altered mobility.

- Maintains patient privacy and confidentiality of information and records at all times.

- Prepares and transports patients for scheduled appointments and remains with patients as needed.

- Assumes responsibility for cleanliness, neatness, safety, and organization of the patients’ environments, and helps maintain a safe patient environment.

- Documents in the electronic medical records with clear, concise, and accurate data regarding patients’ conditions, issues, etc.

- Identifies and reports problems and concerns to the licensed nurse regarding patient protocols including any changes in patients’ physical/emotional health. Performs patient monitoring and equipment checks and reports any discrepancies to the Charge Nurse.

- Conducts room rounds to ensure equipment is turned off when not in use and plugged into the appropriate outlet and call bell jack. Removes unused equipment from patient rooms.

- Collects, labels, and transports laboratory specimens and other requested items using proper techniques, standard precautions, in a timely manner, and in accordance with the Institute’s procedures to appropriate areas as assigned.

- Actively participates in Nursing Department activities, such as in-services, in order to improve the work environment.

- Communicates with patients, families, and employees, in a tactful, professional, and considerate manner.

Qualifications

- Must possess and maintain an active, unencumbered Certified Nursing Assistant-II certification through the Maryland Board of Nursing.

- Current Basic Life Support (BLS)or Heartsaver Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification is required.

EDUCATION:

High School Diploma, General Educational Development (GED), or equivalent is required.

EXPERIENCE:

Experience working with pediatric populations or experience supporting people with developmental disabilities is preferred.

## Minimum pay range
USD $17.76/Hr.

## Maximum pay range
USD $28.99/Hr.
