Merry Meritage | Meritage Resort & Spa

Merry Meritage at Meritage Resort & Spa is a seasonal holiday experience featuring an outdoor ice rink, festive activations, family entertainment, specialty beverages, and memorable guest experiences throughout the holiday season. Our beverage team plays an important role in creating a welcoming, festive, and enjoyable atmosphere for guests throughout the property.

We are looking for our next Bartender to join our seasonal food and beverage team. This role is ideal for an experienced bartender who enjoys working with guests, takes pride in preparing high-quality beverages, and is comfortable providing service in both indoor and outdoor environments.

As a Bartender, you will be responsible for preparing and serving alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages at Merry Meritage bars, events, and guest areas. You will provide knowledgeable and attentive service, maintain accurate transactions, follow responsible alcohol service practices, and help create memorable holiday experiences for guests of all ages.

You are comfortable working in a fast-paced environment and can remain composed while managing multiple orders and guest requests. You take pride in maintaining a clean and organized bar, work well as part of a team, and are comfortable working both indoors and outdoors in cold temperatures and changing weather conditions. What You'll Do

- Welcome guests with a friendly, professional, and enthusiastic attitude.
- Prepare and serve beer, wine, cocktails, hot beverages, specialty holiday drinks, and non-alcoholic beverages according to recipes and service standards.
- Accurately take beverage orders and enter them into the point-of-sale system.
- Provide knowledgeable recommendations and answer guest questions regarding beverages, ingredients, preparation, and pricing.
- Follow standardized recipes to ensure consistency, quality, proper portioning, and presentation.
- Maintain efficient beverage service during busy periods, special events, and peak holiday operations.
- Verify guest identification and follow all responsible alcohol service laws, policies, and procedures.
- Monitor guest consumption and appropriately refuse service when necessary, involving management or security when appropriate.
- Maintain clean, organized, and fully stocked bars, service stations, and beverage areas throughout the shift.
- Prepare garnishes, syrups, mixers, ice, glassware, and other beverage mise en place before and during service.
- Restock liquor, wine, beer, mixers, glassware, disposables, and other supplies as needed.
- Monitor product levels and communicate shortages, breakage, equipment concerns, and inventory issues to management.
- Process guest checks, cash, credit card transactions, and other payments accurately and in accordance with company procedures.
- Reconcile cash drawers, point-of-sale activity, and other assigned financial responsibilities as directed.
- Maintain proper storage, labeling, rotation, and handling of beverage products.
- Clear, clean, and reset bar areas, tables, counters, and other guest spaces.
- Follow all sanitation, food safety, glassware, chemical handling, and workplace safety standards.
- Communicate effectively with servers, barbacks, culinary team members, cashiers, managers, and other resort departments.
- Assist with special events, holiday activations, outdoor service areas, and other Merry Meritage programming as needed.
- Provide information about the ice rink, Merry Meritage activations, resort amenities, and other guest offerings.
- Work collaboratively with the food and beverage, ice rink, retail, culinary, and resort teams.
- Maintain a positive, festive, and service-focused atmosphere throughout every guest interaction.
- Follow all company policies, cash-handling procedures, responsible beverage service requirements, and applicable regulations.
- Perform additional responsibilities as assigned to support the overall success of Merry Meritage.

Qualifications

- Previous bartending experience in a restaurant, bar, hotel, resort, event venue, or high-volume operation is required.
- Experience preparing cocktails, beer, wine, specialty beverages, and hot holiday drinks.
- Knowledge of spirits, wine, beer, cocktail preparation, responsible alcohol service, and beverage presentation.
- Proficient in using point-of-sale systems and processing cash and credit card transactions.
- Responsible Beverage Service certification is required, or the ability to obtain one before beginning work.
- California Food Handler Card, or the ability to obtain one within 30 days of hire.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to interact positively with guests of all ages.
- Ability to accurately follow recipes, manage multiple orders, and maintain consistency during high-volume service periods.
- Ability to exercise sound judgment regarding responsible alcohol service and guest safety.
- Reliable attendance, professionalism, and a positive, team-oriented attitude.
- Ability to work independently while also contributing to a collaborative service team.
- Must be comfortable working both indoors and outdoors in cold temperatures and changing weather conditions.
- Must be available to work varying shifts, including evenings, weekends, holidays, and peak-season periods.
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods while providing active guest service.

Physical Requirements

This position requires standing and walking for extended periods, frequent bending, reaching, lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling while working in indoor and outdoor bar and service environments.

Team members must be able to lift and carry up to 40 pounds, transport beverage products, ice, glassware, trays, supplies, and bar equipment, and work in cold outdoor temperatures for extended periods while maintaining professional service standards.
