Merry Meritage | Meritage Resort & Spa

Merry Meritage at Meritage Resort & Spa is a seasonal holiday experience featuring an outdoor ice rink, festive activations, family entertainment, and memorable guest experiences throughout the holiday season. Our ice rink team plays an important role in creating a safe, welcoming, and enjoyable environment for guests of all ages and skating abilities.

We are looking for exceptional Ice Rink Guards to join our seasonal team. This role is ideal for a confident skater who enjoys working with the public, takes safety seriously, and is passionate about creating positive guest experiences.

As an Ice Rink Guard, you will monitor the rink, assist guests, enforce safety rules, respond to incidents, and help ensure that every skating session operates smoothly. You will work alongside the Ice Rink Manager and other team members in a fast-paced, outdoor environment that requires strong communication, attention to detail, and a welcoming attitude.

Who You Are

You are a proficient skater who is comfortable skating for extended periods and working with guests of all ages and skill levels. You are approachable, alert, dependable, and able to remain calm and professional while managing a busy public environment.

You understand that safety and hospitality go hand in hand. You are comfortable enforcing rules in a friendly and respectful manner, assisting beginning skaters and families, and responding quickly when guests need help. If you enjoy creating memorable holiday experiences and take pride in helping guests feel safe and welcome, you will fit right in at Meritage Resort & Spa.

What You'll Do

- Monitor the ice rink and surrounding areas to promote a safe and enjoyable guest experience.
- Enforce all rink rules, safety procedures, session guidelines, and capacity limits in a friendly and professional manner.
- Assist guests with rink procedures, skating questions, session information, and general resort information.
- Help children, families, beginning skaters, and guests who require additional assistance.
- Identify and respond appropriately to unsafe behavior, falls, injuries, and other guest concerns.
- Provide basic first aid within the scope of training and immediately notify management or emergency personnel when necessary.
- Maintain constant awareness of ice conditions, guest traffic, congestion, and potential hazards.
- Communicate clearly and effectively with managers and team members using radios or other communication devices.
- Assist with guest flow during skating sessions, breaks, special events, and rink closures.
- Support opening and closing procedures, including safety inspections, rink preparation, and securing the area.
- Monitor the condition of rental skates, safety equipment, barriers, signage, and other rink supplies.
- Report damaged equipment, unsafe conditions, rule violations, maintenance issues, and guest concerns to management.
- Assist with maintaining a clean, organized, and presentable rink and guest areas.
- Work collaboratively with the rink, retail, food and beverage, security, and resort teams.
- Maintain a positive, festive, and service-focused atmosphere throughout each guest interaction.
- Follow all company policies, safety procedures, emergency protocols, and applicable regulations.
- Perform additional responsibilities as assigned to support the overall success of Merry Meritage.

Qualifications

- Must be a proficient and confident skater.
- Previous experience working at an ice rink, recreation facility, resort, amusement venue, public attraction, or similar environment is preferred.
- Previous guest service, lifeguard, security, recreation, first aid, or emergency response experience is beneficial.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to interact positively with children, families, and guests of varying ages and abilities.
- Ability to enforce safety rules and rink policies with professionalism, patience, and good judgment.
- Ability to remain alert and focused in a busy public environment.
- Ability to respond quickly and appropriately to safety concerns and emergencies.
- Reliable attendance, professionalism, and a positive, team-oriented attitude.
- Current CPR and First Aid certification is preferred, or the ability to complete required training.
- Must be available to work varying shifts, including evenings, weekends, holidays, and peak-season periods.
- Must be comfortable working outdoors in cold weather and changing conditions.

Physical Requirements

This position requires skating, standing, walking, bending, reaching, kneeling, and moving quickly for extended periods. Team members must be able to assist guests who fall, respond to safety concerns, and lift or carry up to 40 pounds when necessary.

The position requires working outdoors in cold temperatures and around ice, water, rental equipment, barriers, carts, and other rink-related equipment while maintaining strict safety standards.
