Job Summary
Under the supervision of the Payroll Administrator, the Payroll Specialist assists to make sure payroll is processing timely, accurately, and in accordance with state and federal rules and regulations by performing a variety of activities from data entry to research of most current labor laws.

Essential Job Functions
Duties include, but are not limited to the following:

- Performs daily Payroll department operations

- Provides timekeeping support to staff (time card corrections, paid time off requests, etc.)

- Assists in collecting and entering necessary payroll adjustments (e.g. employee expense and mileage reimbursements)

- Resolves employee direct deposit information issues

- Assists in staff training and development around payroll-specific topics (e.g. time and attendance)

- Responds to payroll inquiries from staff in a timely manner

- Compiles data around missed punches, meal premiums, split shift premiums

- Reviews organization policies, procedures, and practices related to payroll and makes recommendations for improvement

- Assists in ensuring organization-wide compliance with federal, state, and local legislation pertaining to payroll

- Participates in developing department objectives, goals, and systems, and in planning of corresponding activities

- Attends and participates in staff meetings, in-service trainings, projects, and committees as assigned

- Adheres to organization practices, procedures, and policies

- May require occasional use of personal vehicle.

- Proficient knowledge of computer skills including but not limited to MS Office (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, and Outlook)

- Knowledge of general office procedures, equipment, and filing systems

- Excellent writing skills

- Effective oral communication

- Ability to quickly learn department goals, services, policies, and procedures

Working Conditions and Physical Demands

- Ability to access all areas of the center throughout the workday

- Ability to lift up to 35 pounds occasionally, 15 pounds frequently, and 7 pounds constantly; required to obtain assistance of another qualified employee when attempting to lift or transfer objects over 25 pounds

- Requires constant hand grasp and finger dexterity; frequent sitting, standing, walking and repetitive leg and arm movements, occasional bending, reaching forward and overhead; squatting and kneeling

- Work is generally performed in an indoor, well-lighted, well-ventilated, heated, and air-conditioned environment

Experience

- Minimum of one (1) year of payroll-related experience, preferred

- Minimum of one (1) year of documented experience working with a frail or elderly population

Education and Certification

- High school diploma or equivalent, required

- Some college, preferred

- Is medically cleared for communicable diseases and has all immunizations up-to-date before engaging in direct participant contact.
