About this role

The Accounting & Reporting team sets accounting rules and financial accounting dimensions, closes and consolidates the group's books, and checks accounting quality. We drive integration between business and finance, oversee internal controls relevant to financial disclosure, and prepare tax, financial, and management statements aligned with audit needs.

We support a rapidly expanding global portfolio of legal entities and business models, which means continuously adapting accounting frameworks to new products, revenue streams, and regulatory jurisdictions while maintaining strict compliance and data accuracy at scale.

You will build and own the financial foundation that underpins every business decision at ByteDance, ensuring the integrity of the numbers that guide a global enterprise.

Team Introduction:
The APAC Accounting and Reporting team at ByteDance is responsible for the core financial accounting activities of the Group's entities across the region. The team establishes regional accounting processes for multiple business lines, provides financial guidance, and partners closely with cross-functional stakeholders to ensure accurate, timely, and compliant financial reporting. Key responsibilities include the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, as well as financial analysis and reporting in accordance with applicable accounting standards and regulatory requirements across the APAC region.

We are looking for a Financial Accountant in Japan to support the accounting and financial reporting activities of our Japan entities. This role requires full-time onsite work.

Responsibilities:
- Accurately, timely, and efficiently execute financial accounting activities, including monthly, quarterly, and annual closing, as well as quality control and related accounting tasks.
- Participate in and collaborate on projects related to the implementation, localization, and optimization of financial and accounting systems.
- Liaising directly with local statutory auditor to ensure the annual local statutory audit and filing is completed in accordance with local compliance requirements and the stipulated timeline.
- Perform quality control of financial statements and related documentation, and support reporting and explanations to external stakeholders.
- Support administrative and coordination activities related to audits, tax filings, regulatory investigations, and other related projects.
- Manage fixed assets, inventory, sales, and accounts receivable/payable activities.
- Perform other accounting and finance-related tasks as required.

Minimum Qualification(s):
- At least 5 years of relevant work experience in accounting within an audit firm or corporate environment in Japan.
- Proficiency in English or Mandarin is required to collaborate with global internal stakeholders (including stakeholders based in Mainland China), where either language is used as a primary working language.
- Strong sense of ownership and responsibility, with a proactive and positive attitude.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the flexibility and adaptability to work effectively in a changing environment.

Preferred Qualification(s):
- Experience in financial accounting system implementation projects.
- Entrepreneurial mindset, with the ability to proactively identify opportunities, structure and organize projects, and drive them through to completion efficiently.
