How will I help?

Reporting to the Money Laundering Reporting Officer (MLRO), you will play a critical role in supporting the oversight and management of Financial Crime Risk across WEG. Acting as the Deputy MLRO and Deputy Central Office, you will help ensure the bank meets its obligations under German and European AML, Counter Terrorism Financing and sanctions regulations.

You will work closely with senior management, regulators, auditors and stakeholders across Europe and the broader Westpac Group, providing expert advice, oversight and challenge on financial crime matters while helping drive a strong risk culture throughout the organisation.

Key Accountabilities

- Support and deputise for the MLRO across all Financial Crime obligations.

- Assist in maintaining and enhancing WEG's AML, CTF, sanctions and Financial Crime framework.

- Conduct and oversee financial crime risk assessments, control testing and monitoring activities.

- Review and investigate Financial Crime alerts, escalations and suspicious activity matters.

- Support the preparation and submission of regulatory reporting where required.

- Manage relationships with regulatory authorities, auditors and internal stakeholders.

- Coordinate the remediation of audit findings, regulatory actions and control improvements.

- Oversee outsourced Financial Crime service providers and monitor performance against agreed standards.

- Support governance forums, committee reporting and management information production.

- Monitor regulatory developments and ensure policies, procedures and controls remain aligned with evolving requirements.

- Contribute to strategic Financial Crime projects, regulatory change initiatives and system enhancements.

- Deliver guidance and training to business stakeholders on Financial Crime obligations and emerging risks.

What we're looking for

- Significant experience in Financial Crime, AML, Compliance, Risk or a related discipline within banking or financial services.

- Strong understanding of German and European AML, CTF and sanctions regulations.

- Experience working with regulators, auditors and senior stakeholders.

- Demonstrated ability to assess risk, challenge effectively and influence business outcomes.

- Strong analytical and problem solving skills with attention to detail.

- Experience managing control frameworks, monitoring activities and remediation programmes.

- Ability to work independently while building strong relationships across multiple stakeholder groups.

- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

- Fluent German and English language skills.

- ACAMS, ICA or similar Financial Crime qualifications would be advantageous.

- University degree in Law, Finance, Business, Risk, Compliance or a related field.
