About this role
Job Title: Satellite Mission & Flight Dynamics Analyst Job Description The Satellite Mission & Flight Dynamics Analyst plays a pivotal role in ensuring the performance, safety, and longevity of a satellite constellation. This position covers the full mission lifecycle, from launch, orbit raising, and station-keeping through to end-of-life disposal. You will focus on orbit determination, maneuver planning, collision avoidance, and operational strategy, while collaborating closely with mission operations teams and contributing to the continuous improvement of flight dynamics capabilities and processes. Responsibilities
- Contribute to the planning and execution of satellite mission activities across all phases, from launch through end-of-life disposal.
- Monitor potential collision risks and recommend appropriate avoidance maneuvers when required to protect the satellite constellation.
- Improve operational processes related to satellite mission operations and flight dynamics to enhance efficiency and reliability.
- Work closely with mission operations teams to support day-to-day decision-making and ensure safe and effective spacecraft operations.
- Mentor and provide guidance to junior analysts, supporting their technical development and knowledge of mission operations and flight dynamics.
- Support the development of Space Situational Awareness (SSA) capabilities, including integration with external SSA systems and data sources.
- Help install, test, and validate Flight Dynamics Systems to ensure accurate orbit determination, maneuver planning, and performance analysis.
- Contribute to orbit management planning for all mission phases, including orbit raising, station-keeping, and end-of-life disposal strategies.
- Develop strategies to maintain satellites in their assigned orbits while minimizing fuel usage and optimizing propellant consumption.
- Optimize flight dynamics tools used for orbit determination, maneuver tracking, and performance assessment.
- Analyze maneuver performance and propellant consumption to validate mission plans and refine future operations.
- Create and maintain satellite command procedures and operational documentation to support consistent and safe mission execution.
- Support automation efforts for spacecraft flight dynamics operations to reduce manual workload and improve responsiveness.
- Participate in launch, orbit-raising, and early mission operations activities, providing flight dynamics expertise and operational support.
Essential Skills
- Minimum 6+ years of experience in satellite mission operations and/or orbit dynamics, including satellite flight physics, guidance, navigation and control (GNC), and orbit and trajectory analysis.
- Demonstrated expertise in satellite mission operations and satellite flight dynamics, including orbit analysis and station-keeping planning.
- Bachelors degree at minimum, in a relevant field such as engineering, physics, or a closely related discipline.
- Strong experience in statistics, calculus, classical mechanics, and celestial mechanics.
- Proficiency in computer programming applicable to orbit analysis, flight dynamics, or mission operations tools.
- Experience in performing satellite station-keeping planning and execution.
- Experience with operational procedure scripting languages for spacecraft operations and automation.
- Experience with Linux systems administration in a mission operations or technical environment.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to explain complex technical concepts clearly to diverse stakeholders.
- Eligibility for Controlled Goods and Reliability Status.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience contributing to Space Situational Awareness (SSA) capabilities and integrating external SSA data and tools.
- Experience optimizing flight dynamics tools for orbit determination and maneuver tracking.
- Experience creating and maintaining satellite command procedures and operational documentation.
- Experience supporting automation initiatives within spacecraft flight dynamics operations.
- Demonstrated ability to mentor and support junior analysts in a collaborative team environment.
Work Environment This role is based in a hybrid work environment, with four days per week in the Ottawa office and one day remote. You will work within a dedicated mission operations and flight dynamics team currently comprising approximately 12 members, with plans to grow significantly over the next two years. The environment is highly collaborative and technically focused, with regular interaction across mission operations and engineering disciplines. Some off-hours and on-call work is required to support emergency response and critical mission events, particularly during launch, orbit-raising, and other time-sensitive operations. The role involves working with Linux-based systems, specialized flight dynamics and mission operations tools, and scripting environments to support satellite control and analysis.
