Job Title: Field Service Technician Job Description The Field Service Technician delivers world-class technical customer service and support for specialized processing equipment used in the brewing, food and beverage, and related industries. This role works within the Technical Service Group, managing multiple customers and projects, providing both in-house and on-site support, and ensuring equipment operates reliably and efficiently. The position focuses on driving service success that improves customer satisfaction, maximizes customer retention, and contributes to overall profitability. Responsibilities
- Support OEM equipment and systems at customer production facilities, ensuring reliable operation and optimal performance.
- Diagnose and troubleshoot technical issues with equipment, identifying root causes and determining appropriate solutions.
- Remotely monitor equipment effectiveness and performance using remote access software and direct communication with customers.
- Perform modifications, upgrades, and routine maintenance on existing equipment to meet evolving customer needs and requirements.
- Conduct troubleshooting of mechanical, electrical controls, and instrumentation at the fabrication shop and at customer site locations.
- Provide clear, effective training to customer staff on proper equipment operation and basic maintenance procedures.
- Produce timely, accurate, and detailed service reports that document work performed, findings, and recommendations.
- Comprehend customer requirements and make appropriate technical recommendations and equipment modifications as needed.
- Schedule, plan, and prioritize service calls and customer visits to meet deadlines and service commitments.
- Participate in in-house equipment testing, installation, commissioning, and ongoing support for brewery equipment, liquid blenders, carbonators, and related processing systems.
- Support emerging technologies such as CBD oil extraction machines, ensuring proper installation, commissioning, and service.
- Collaborate effectively with customers, technical service colleagues, and engineering personnel to resolve complex issues and deliver high-quality service.
- Apply preventive maintenance practices to reduce downtime and extend equipment life.
- Interpret technical manuals, blueprints, diagrams, and schematics to guide installation, troubleshooting, and repairs.
- Organize, schedule, and carry out work assignments with minimal supervision while maintaining high service standards.
Essential Skills
- Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot, test, repair, and service technical equipment in industrial or processing environments.
- Ability to work flexible shifts and adapt to changing work schedules based on customer and project needs.
- Willingness to travel approximately 50%75% of the time within the USA, with the ability to increase travel to 75%100% for non-local candidates.
- Residence within approximately 60 minutes of a major airport to support frequent domestic travel.
- Ability to effectively organize, schedule, and execute work assignments with minimal supervision.
- Developing ability to interpret technical manuals, blueprints, diagrams, and schematics.
- Understanding of the safe operation of hand tools and power equipment used in industrial settings.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills for interaction with customers and internal teams.
- Ability to develop strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills in mechanical and electrical systems.
- Basic or developing technical knowledge of process and industrial automation.
- Basic knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and process systems used in brewing and food and beverage production.
- Basic understanding of control systems and PLCs, particularly Rockwell Automation / Allen-Bradley systems.
- Basic understanding of mechanical process equipment such as pumps, valves, meters, and related components.
- Proficiency with computers and common software tools, including Microsoft Office, Excel, and Word.
- Attained or actively pursuing an associate or technical degree in engineering or a related field, with a preference for higher-level education in engineering, electronics, or programming.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience in installation, industrial maintenance, and troubleshooting of processing systems is a plus.
- Experience in the brewing, food and beverage, or similar production industries is beneficial.
- Hands-on experience with electrical troubleshooting, mechanical troubleshooting, and preventive maintenance.
- Ability to read and work from blueprints, schematics, and detailed technical drawings.
- Experience with electrical testing, pneumatics, hydraulics, and field service work.
- Familiarity with PLC troubleshooting, especially Rockwell Automation platforms.
- Comfort working with equipment such as brewery systems, liquid blenders, carbonators, and CBD oil extraction machinery.
- Experience with assembly and commissioning of industrial equipment.
- Graduates or attendees of technical programs similar to those offered at WCTC are strongly encouraged to apply.
Work Environment The role is based in a clean, modern facility in Waukesha that serves as both a fabrication and testing environment for brewing and food and beverage processing equipment. The facility features a beer garden and a functioning bar in the lobby, reflecting a collaborative, social culture that values team outings and informal gatherings. Field Service Technicians split their time between in-house work and frequent travel to customer production sites across the USA, working with brewery equipment, liquid blenders, carbonators, and emerging technologies such as CBD oil extraction systems. This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Atlanta, GA.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $42.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
