The territory for this position is Northeast. The primary states this role will focus on are Pennsylvania, New York, New Jersey, and Massachusetts. Strongly prefer candidates in the Northeast.

Summary:

The Director, State Government Affairs is responsible for developing and executing state government affairs strategies for an assigned region of the United States in alignment with Lundbeck’s strategy and the priorities of the State Government Affairs function. The role builds and maintains strategic relationships with Governor’s offices, state legislators, regulators, health agency officials, trade associations, and other external stakeholders to advance Lundbeck’s policy priorities, support patient access to therapies, and foster a favorable business and reimbursement environment.

Reporting to the Senior Director, State Government Affairs, the Director serves as a key advisor on state legislative, regulatory, and political developments within the assigned region and works cross-functionally to assess business implications, recommend strategies, and coordinate advocacy efforts.

Essential Functions:

- Develop and execute government affairs strategies and advocacy plans for assigned states in alignment with State Government Affairs priorities and broader company objectives.

- In collaboration with State Policy and other internal stakeholders, monitor and assess proposed state legislation, regulations, and policy developments that may impact Lundbeck, its products, or patients.

- Evaluate legislative and regulatory proposals, assess potential business and patient impacts, and recommend appropriate courses of action to State Government Affairs leadership and relevant internal stakeholders.

- Conduct direct lobbying and advocacy with state legislators, regulators, governors’ offices, health agencies, and other government officials, as appropriate.

- Develop and maintain strategic relationships with elected officials, legislators, regulators, state agency officials, and other key external stakeholders within the assigned region.

- Coordinate state government affairs activities with relevant internal functions to ensure consistent and effective engagement on priority legislative, regulatory, reimbursement, and access issues.

- Partner with Commercial, Market Access, Medical, Legal, and other stakeholders to provide state government affairs insights relevant to product launches, market access, reimbursement, and other business priorities.

- Manage external government affairs consultants within the assigned region, including establishing priorities and workplans, monitoring performance, and ensuring activities align with Lundbeck objectives and expectations.

- Identify opportunities to build and leverage appropriate external coalitions and advocacy partnerships in coordination with Patient Advocacy.

- Represent Lundbeck in appropriate state policy forums, trade associations, and industry organizations, including PhRMA and state industry associations, in coordination with State Government Affairs leadership.

- Provide timely insights and strategic counsel to internal stakeholders regarding significant state legislative, regulatory, political, and policy developments and their potential implications for Lundbeck.

- Collaborate closely with Federal Government Affairs, State Policy, Market Access, Corporate Affairs, Patient Advocacy, Legal, Medical, Finance, and commercial functions to support coordinated external engagement and business priorities.

Required Education, Experience, and Skills:

- Accredited bachelor’s degree

- 10 years in government affairs, patient advocacy, consulting on regulatory or governmental affairs or roles in public service

- State-level government affairs experience required.

- Understanding of proprietary needs of launching products in State programs.

- Strong verbal and written communication skills

- Strategic thinking and ability to assess potential outcome scenarios

- Ability to muti-task and deliver work product under tight deadlines

- Ability to present information effectively and persuasively.

- Ability to cultivate strong relationships

- Must have the ability to work in close collaboration with cross functional partners in Federal Government Affairs, Finance, Corporate Affairs, Legal, Medical and Business Unit Market Access.

- Driving is an essential duty of this job; must have a valid driver’s license in good standing.

Preferred Education, Experience, and Skills:

- Prior experience in Government Relations within the pharmaceutical industry, preferably in neuroscience

- Third party Consultant management

- Ability to effectively navigate and leverage trade association relationships

Travel:

- Willingness/Ability to travel up to 60% domestically. International travel may be required.

The range displayed is a national range, and if selected for this role, may vary based on various factors such as the candidate’s geographical location, qualifications, skills, competencies, and proficiency for the role. Salary Pay Range: $230,000 - $255,000 and eligibility for a 25% bonus target based on company and individual performance, and eligibility to participate in the company’s long-term incentive plan.
