Lead Field Technician - Commercial Door & Loading Dock
Location: Clinton Township, MI
Compensation: $35/hr + overtime / double time | Strong potential to earn $100K+ per year OTE!!!!
Schedule: Monday–Friday | Typically 6:00 AM start | 40-hour minimum, averaging 45–50 hours/week
Position Type: Full-Time | W2
Travel: Primarily local/Metro Detroit
About the Opportunity
We are seeking an experienced Lead Technician to join a growing team in Clinton Township, MI. This is a hands-on field position supporting commercial overhead doors and loading dock equipment across new construction, service, repair, and installation projects.
You’ll spend approximately 95% of your time in the field , working directly with customers and taking ownership of jobs from start to finish. This is a great opportunity for an experienced door and dock technician who enjoys variety, independence, and being part of a family-owned company rather than a large corporate environment .
What You’ll Do
- Lead and perform installation, service, repair, and troubleshooting of commercial overhead doors and loading dock equipment
- Work on both new construction projects and aftermarket/service calls
- Report to the shop, review the day’s jobs, and load the necessary materials into your company vehicle
- Measure openings, understand product requirements, and ensure proper installation
- Diagnose equipment issues and determine appropriate repairs
- Communicate directly with customers in the field
- Complete job documentation, photos, and service information using an iPad
- Maintain a clean, organized work truck and shop environment
- Work independently while also collaborating with other technicians and installers
- Provide clear documentation of service findings and completed work
What We’re Looking For
- Hands-on experience installing/repairing overhead doors and/or loading dock equipment
- Installation, service, repair, and troubleshooting experience
- Residential or commercial door experience will be considered
- Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving ability
- Comfortable working independently in the field
- Tech-savvy and comfortable using an iPad, smartphone, email, and basic computer systems
- Valid, clean driver’s license
- Must be able to successfully pass a background check and drug screening, including THC
- High school diploma or equivalent
Schedule & On-Call
This is primarily a Monday–Friday position , with most days starting around 6:00 AM . End times vary depending on the workload and projects, with technicians generally working around 45–50 hours per week .
The Lead Technician will also participate in a rotating on-call schedule approximately once every 6 weeks .
- Receives an on-call bonus for the assigned on-call week
- When called in, technicians are paid double time
- Typically only about one call during an on-call week
- During very cold weather, there may occasionally be 2–3 calls
- The on-call rotation is shared among the team, so you are not on call every week
Compensation & Benefits Overview
- $25–$35/hr DOE - potential to earn $100K+ per year OTE!!!!
- Overtime paid at
1.5x after 40 hours
- Double time on Sundays and qualifying on-call call-ins
- $50 on-call bonus
