Who We Are

Boston Consulting Group partners with leaders in business and society to tackle their most important challenges and capture their greatest opportunities. BCG was the pioneer in business strategy when it was founded in 1963. Today, we help clients with total transformation-inspiring complex change, enabling organizations to grow, building competitive advantage, and driving bottom-line impact.

To succeed, organizations must blend digital and human capabilities. Our diverse, global teams bring deep industry and functional expertise and a range of perspectives to spark change. BCG delivers solutions through leading-edge management consulting along with technology and design, corporate and digital ventures—and business purpose. We work in a uniquely collaborative model across the firm and throughout all levels of the client organization, generating results that allow our clients to thrive.

What You'll Do

In today’s rapidly evolving legal and regulatory landscape, Legal has never been more strategic — or more technically complex. BCG is at a pivotal moment: transforming how we manage contracts, conflicts, and compliance, and how we apply agentic AI, data, and automation to reduce risk and unlock capacity at scale. We are committed to becoming a benchmark for excellence in professional services — not just in what we say, but in how we show up, what we measure, and how we continuously innovate.

Realising this vision demands leadership — someone who combines deep technical legal-technology expertise with the ability to drive cross-functional transformation, influence senior stakeholders, and translate strategic ambition into measurable outcomes.

As the Technical Area Lead (TAL) for Legal, you will be BCG’s foremost technical authority on legal technology. You will define how the Legal function technically operates, set the standards and architecture for how legal capability is built and delivered, and act as the connective tissue between legal strategy and technical execution across the firm — ensuring alignment across platforms, teams, and stakeholders.

You will lead with both breadth — spanning contract lifecycle management, conflict clearance, legal knowledge management, eDiscovery & litigation support, matter allocation & management, insurance, corporate elections, and agentic AI — and depth, setting the technical direction that underpins major legal technology programs.

You will oversee key decisions — including short-term delivery trade-offs vs. long-term capability build, platform and vendor selection, SDLC best-practices, and the establishment and regular review of technology and AI-quality observability and health metrics — while providing clarity and direction where priorities, ownership, or approaches are not well defined.

From a people-management perspective, you will lead legal technology chapter leads and specialists across Software Engineering & AI, SaaS Engineering, Quality Assurance, Data, and L2 Operations, managing external vendor relationships where relevant. You will work closely with the Legal Portfolio to ensure alignment between legal technology capability and BCG’s risk, compliance, and commercial priorities.

In partnership with the Legal Portfolio

- Create and deliver on the portfolio’s vision, strategy, and outcomes.
- Provide technical oversight and alignment across key legal platforms (e.g. contract lifecycle management, conflicts clearing, matter management, knowledge management) to deliver on the BCG legal technology strategy and execute against agreed direction, ensuring they operate cohesively across the ecosystem.
- Continuously monitor and evaluate emerging trends in legal technology, agentic AI, and automation to identify opportunities.
- Ensure that all legal technology programmes and chapter initiatives deliver on the portfolio’s risk, compliance, and commercial ambitions.
- Regularly assess the portfolio’s strategic approach against BCG’s global priorities and adjust in response to changing regulatory conditions and technological innovation.
- Foster close collaboration between Legal, Tech, Data, and business functions to ensure legal technology solutions are commercially aligned, technically sound, and aligned with enterprise and architectural principles.
- Act as a point of escalation when work spans multiple teams or systems, ensuring alignment and timely resolution of issues.

Align and guide legal technology in line with BCG’s product and IT standards

- Ensure adherence to firm-wide standards, including alignment with BCG’s Architectural roadmap and enterprise architecture principles, while adapting them to meet the Legal Portfolio’s needs and providing guidance where standards, ownership, or approaches are unclear.
- Partner with enterprise architecture, data, risk, security, and compliance governance teams to ensure all legal technology activity complies with relevant standards, guidelines, and regulatory requirements (including data privacy, confidentiality, and jurisdictional requirements).
- Take a long-term view on platform consolidation, vendor management, and the effective use of legal technology assets in line with enterprise strategy.
- Coordinate and manage people, knowledge, and resources
- Lead and mentor chapters of technology specialists across engineering, AI, data, QA, and operations, fostering a culture of shared knowledge and continuous development.

Coordinate across vendors, technology partners, and internal stakeholders to manage dependencies and maintain a coherent legal technology capability.

- Step in where gaps exist between teams to ensure continuity, ownership, and progress.
- Ensure progress of the legal technology strategy
- Ensure progress through effective resourcing, planning, and talent development.
- Take a long-term view on capability resourcing, identifying and closing skill gaps across the portfolio — particularly in agentic processes and workflows, Ai-as-a-Channel, headless engineering, and data.
- Partner with the Legal Portfolio Lead and stakeholders to ensure the team has the capacity, talent, and tools to deliver new programmes at pace.
- Challenge the status quo where appropriate to accelerate progress towards BCG’s strategic legal technology objectives.

YOU'RE GOOD AT

- Strong judgment in complex technology environments — resolving issues, making trade-offs, and guiding teams through ambiguity.
- Staying current on legal and technology capabilities while anticipating future trends (e.g. agentic AI, LLM orchestration, contract intelligence).
- Proven track record of delivering complex Legal / Risk / KYC technology products and programmes, ideally in professional services, regulated, or consulting environments.
- Partnering with business, portfolio, and enterprise stakeholders to define and deliver legal technology capability roadmaps.
- Translating business priorities into integrated technology programmes — selecting appropriate approaches, platforms, and vendors, and ensuring alignment across teams and systems.
- Applying agentic AI, generative AI, and LLMs to practical technology use cases — from contract metadata extraction to conversational knowledge search.
- Managing legal technology, vendor relationships, and capability resourcing with a long-term, scalable view.
- Overseeing legal technology architecture and platform strategy in alignment with enterprise standards and governance.
- Communicating clearly and effectively across all levels, including senior leadership.
- Working cross-functionally across Legal, IT, data, risk, and the business to deliver aligned outcomes.
- Empowering teams while maintaining high standards for quality and alignment.
- Building strong networks of influence across portfolios and senior leadership.

What You'll Bring

- 12+ years of senior technical leadership experience within a complex, matrixed organisation — ideally in professional services, regulated industries, or consulting.
- A proven leadership track record: leading through influence, building long-term stakeholder relationships, and shaping strategic legal technology visions, roadmaps, budgets, and priorities — including navigating ambiguity and driving alignment across teams and stakeholders.
- Significant expertise in legal-led (or similar) technology transformation — spanning contract lifecycle modernisation, conflicts and due-diligence platforms, and the operationalisation of new legal technology capabilities at scale within complex, multi-team environments.
- Experience directing agentic AI and LLM-based systems in production — multi-agent orchestration, RAG architectures, model evaluation and ground-truth practices, and AI governance — sufficient to set technical direction and evaluate trade-offs even where delivery is executed by your engineering teams.
- Strong command of the legal technology landscape — including contract lifecycle management, conflicts clearing, matter management, knowledge management, and emerging agentic AI platforms — with the ability to connect and align these systems effectively.
- Extensive background and demonstrable outcomes from delivering custom development programmes leveraging major cloud providers, serverless technologies, and
- Familiarity with agile methodologies and ways of working (Scrum, agile delivery, iterative development), with the ability to apply a servant leadership mindset and provide direction across multiple teams and dependencies.

Who You'll Work With

- BCG Legal Leadership team and General Counsel.
- Technology leadership and enterprise architects.
- Legal Portfolio chapter leads — driving capability development, platforms, and delivery.
- Legal Portfolio Lead — translating business priorities into legal technology requirements and stakeholder alignment.
- Portfolio and technical leaders across Risk, Compliance, Data, and Information Security.
