Mechanical Project Engineer / Applications Engineer

Our client is seeking a Mechanical Project Engineer to support the design, sizing, selection, and quoting of custom industrial equipment systems. This role is ideal for an engineer who enjoys both technical problem solving and working directly with customers, vendors, and internal teams. The position focuses heavily on pumps, piping systems, valves, controls, and VFDs while supporting projects from the initial concept and proposal stage through project handoff.
Responsibilities
- Evaluate customer specifications, project scopes, and technical requirements.
- Develop preliminary equipment designs and engineering solutions.
- Perform engineering calculations related to fluid mechanics, flow, pressure, and system performance.
- Size and select pumps, valves, piping components, controls, and VFDs.
- Prepare project quotations, cost estimates, and pricing proposals.
- Work closely with vendors on component selection, pricing, and technical application.
- Serve as the primary technical contact for customers during the early stages of projects.
- Support the sales team by providing technical expertise during customer meetings and proposal development.
- Coordinate with engineering, manufacturing, quality, and project management teams to ensure successful project execution.
- Create and maintain project documentation, technical reports, and engineering records.
- Identify and resolve technical challenges while ensuring compliance with industry standards and customer requirements.
- Utilize Microsoft Excel and other engineering tools to analyze data, create calculations, and improve processes.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelors Degree in Mechanical Engineering preferred. Chemical Engineering or Electrical Engineering degrees will also be considered.
- Experience working with pumps, piping systems, valves, controls, and VFDs.
- Understanding of fluid mechanics and engineering calculations.
- Strong proficiency with Microsoft Excel.
- Excellent communication and customer-facing skills.
- Strong problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.
- Ability to read and interpret technical specifications and project documentation.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with packaged pump systems.
- Applications Engineering or Sales Engineering experience.
- Experience interpreting and utilizing pump curves.
- Experience within automated industrial equipment manufacturing environments.
- Knowledge of water treatment, reverse osmosis systems, pump stations, control panels, or power distribution equipment.
- Experience with Visual Basic programming or spreadsheet/process automation.

Job Type & Location This is a Permanent position based out of Dallas, TX.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $70000.00 - $95000.00/yr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
