LIFT MECHANIC JOB SUMMARY:
The Lift Mechanic is responsible for the maintenance, troubleshooting, and operation of all chair lifts and rope tows at the resort. This role plays a critical part in guest safety and satisfaction by ensuring all lift equipment is operating safely and efficiently. The Lift Mechanic maintains accurate records, supervises lift operations as needed, and contributes to a positive, clean, and safe work environment. Ideal candidates possess strong mechanical aptitude, excellent communication skills, and the ability to perform in a high-altitude, outdoor environment under varying weather conditions.
Qualifications
ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES/TASKS:
- Pre-Operational Inspections: Responsible for the proper opening and closing of chair lifts, including all pre-operational inspections.
- Lift Operation: Encourage proper operation of chair lifts and complete all required periodic daily inspections.
- Emergency Response: Respond to lift emergencies according to established lift malfunction or disabled lift communication procedures.
- Snowmobile Operation: Operate snowmobiles in accordance with organizational snowmobile operation guidelines.
- Guest and Employee Service: Help educate guests and employees on proper and responsible use (loading, riding, and unloading) of the chairlifts, ropetows, and conveyor.
- Site Maintenance: Help keep ramps, signs, mazes, and lift stations, clean, and orderly.
- Record Keeping: Maintain and complete all lift maintenance drive and detach terminal work logs accurately.
- Workstation Cleanliness: Maintain clean and organized workspaces, with special attention to the sheave shop and motor rooms.
- Environmental Monitoring: Monitor weather and mechanical conditions that may impact lift operations.
- Training Participation: Attend and participate in required Lift Maintenance training sessions. Seek guidance when unfamiliar with tasks.
- Departmental Collaboration: Work cooperatively with other departments to support operations.
- Supervision & Support: Assist with the supervision of lift operators and completion of daily work logs.
- Training & Assistance: Assist in the training of lift operators and support lift operations as needed.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
High school diploma, G.E.D., or an equivalent combination of education and experience is preferred. Mechanical aptitude is required. Must be 18 years of age or older.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
This position requires regular use of vision and hearing to safely operate equipment and assess mechanical issues. The Lift Mechanic is frequently required to stand, walk, climb, stoop, kneel, and use hands for grasping, feeling, and performing fine motor tasks. The role also involves frequent lifting, pulling, and pushing of equipment or materials, often in challenging outdoor conditions. Physical stamina, attention to detail, and the ability to react quickly and safely in potentially hazardous environments are essential. Tasks are often performed at heights and in confined or elevated spaces, requiring focus and coordination.
WORK ENVIRONMENT :
The Lift Mechanic will work primarily outdoors in varying and often extreme weather conditions. This includes exposure to snow, wind, cold temperatures, and occasional wet or humid conditions. Work areas can be noisy and involve close proximity to mechanical and electrical systems. The pace is often fast, requiring attention to safety and detail while collaborating with team members across departments. Some tasks require working at heights or with heavy equipment.
