Summary

Charge Master ensures processing of all charges in the Emergency Department (ED) daily. Oversee the charges of related observation, fast-track, and ancillary ED services when needed. Serving as liaison for all Emergency Services staff responsible for daily charge capture and corrections. Investigating and resolving all pending issues in HEAT reports related to ED charging.

Responsibilities

- Provides comprehensive organization of data elements, keeping a current knowledge of computer systems and departmental tracking mechanisms specific to Emergency Department charge capture.
- Coordinates data development and management.
- Transfers data from one system to another.
- Prepares printouts of accumulated data.
- Typing assignments and tasks given by management including purchase orders.
- Maintain files and records, convey messages to appropriate department personnel.
- Expediting STAT and emergency requests.
- Responsiveness to internal and external customers in a timely manner.
- Validates accuracy of ED charges and makes corrections as necessary, including level-of-care (ESI) adjustments, procedure coding, supply, and medication charge capture. Interact with ED staff in order to facilitate accurate documentation and charge reconciliation.
- Reports soft/hardware problems appropriately and timely.
- Act as resource for computer applications, questions and concerns for staff. Provides coverage for ED registration desk and/or charge entry duties as requested. Enters orders in the system for office supplies or through Smart Work.
- Reconciliation of all charges in JHS charge validation system with focus on Emergency Department encounters.
- Attending meetings on behalf of Emergency Services as a charge champion.
- Maintain proper phone etiquette by identifying department and self.
- Offers immediate assistance to customers and ensures that their needs are met.
- Enters orders in Cerner as requested by nursing staff.
- Distribute appropriately the incoming mail for the department.
- Maintain CDM database for Emergency Department procedures, devices, and supplies.
- Add/delete as necessary through JMH CDM master.
- Performs data entry in an accurate and timely manner.
- Participate in data collection.
- Validates the accuracy of data entry and performs charge corrections for missing, incomplete, or incorrectly coded ED services.
- Provides reports and schedules as needed for management.
- Provides monthly stats for ED-related committees as requested.

- Performs all other related job duties as assigned.

Experience

- Generally requires 0 to 3 years of related experience.
- Experience with Emergency Department charge capture, coding, or revenue cycle processes preferred.

Education

- High School diploma is required.
