The Chief Engineer oversees all aspects of engineering, maintenance, and facility operations within the hotel. This role ensures the propertys physical assets are maintained to the highest standards of safety, functionality, and luxury presentation. Reporting directly to the Director of Engineering this position leads the engineering team to deliver efficient operations, preventative maintenance, and rapid response to guest and operational needs, ensuring an exceptional guest experience in a luxury hospitality environment.
JOB SUMMARY:
Operations & Maintenance
- Oversee the daily operation, maintenance, and repair of all hotel systems, including mechanical, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, boilers, life safety, and pool systems.
- Ensure the proper upkeep of guestrooms, public areas, and facilities to meet brand and safety standards.
- Implement preventive maintenance programs for the entire property through Alice System.
- Display solid knowledge in the following categories: air conditioning and refrigeration, electrical, mechanical, plumbing, patching walls, painting, wall vinyl replacement, pneumatic/electronic systems and controls, carpentry and finish skills, kitchen equipment, vehicles, energy conservation, and/or general building management.
- Perform walk throughs and inspect property, including guest rooms, restaurants, public spaces, and all work areas.
Team Leadership
- Supervise and mentor engineering staff, delegating assignments and ensuring completion of tasks.
- Support the Director of Engineering in scheduling, training, and performance management.
- Serve as acting head of the department in the absence of the Director of Engineering.
- Demonstrate a team-focused attitude and encourage collaboration.
- Attend departmental meetings and training sessions as required.
- Comply with all policies as outlined in the Handbook, Property Supplement, or otherwise issued including time and attendance expectations, uniform and dress code standards, anti-harassment policy, and substances in the workplace.
Compliance & Safety
- Adhere to LErmitage guidelines to ensure the health, safety and comfort of our team members and guests.
- Ensure adherence to all local, state, and federal codes and regulations.
- Maintain accurate records for inspections, certifications, and permits.
- Promote a culture of safety and ensure team compliance with OSHA, fire codes, and company safety policies, including Emergency Evacuation Procedures, Violence in the Workplace, Accident Reporting, and Bloodborne Pathogen Procedures.
- Manage a comprehensive preventive maintenance program for all hotel assets.
- Ensure maintenance areas and tool storage are kept tidy and safe at all times.
- Identify, locate, and operate all shut-off valves for equipment and shut-offs for buildings.
- Use the Lockout/Tagout system before performing any maintenance work.
- Maintain safe and clear exterior walking areas including landscaping, waste removal, and seasonal management.
Guest Service & Communication
- Respond to guest calls as requested using maintenance work order application. Prioritize and respond to these tasks in a timely manner. Update work order status using the assigned application.
- Coordinate with Housekeeping, Front Office, Food & Beverage, and Operations to resolve maintenance issues quickly and effectively.
- Professionally speak to guests and team members in a timely manner.
- Partner with leadership to support renovation and capital improvement projects.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT:
- Work will primarily take place in a hotel and restaurant environment, in both guest-facing and employee back of house areas.
- Some exterior work with exposure to extreme temperatures and weather conditions.
- Group and solo work.
- Exposure to various hazardous chemicals, to be used only as instructed.
KEY SKILLS & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
- 5+ years general maintenance experience, hotel/lodging environment preferred.
- Bachelors degree in hospitality, business, or related field preferred.
- High School diploma/GED.
- Strong understanding of mechanical operations.
- Ability to frequently stand, walk, sit, stoop, twist, push, pull, and use power and hand tools.
- Must be able to lift or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift to 75 pounds.
- Ability to interpret manufacturer's literature for installation, preparation, use and upkeep of various materials and products used throughout the property.
- Knowledge of proper chemical handling and disposal.
- Successful completion of satisfactory background check.
- Available and willing to work flexible hours based on business needs including weekdays and weekends.
- Demonstrates strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Expresses sincere enthusiasm for the role and passion for property maintenance.
- Must know how to prioritize, delegate, and respond in a timely fashion. Able to work under pressure, multi-task, and stay focused while maintaining hospitality.
