SB Energy develops, builds, owns, and operates some of the largest and most technically advanced energy and data center infrastructure projects in the United States. Since its founding, the company has rapidly grown into a top-tier integrated platform with more than 3 gigawatts (GW) in operation and a multi-GW pipeline of energy and data center infrastructure nationwide.
SB Energy also leverages a strong culture of innovation to identify and integrate new technologies into its projects, including its AI-based digital platform, delivering energy infrastructure that is local, reliable, and matched to load. We are building the energy and infrastructure future—today.
Come join us in accelerating the energy and infrastructure transition!
Basic Function
SB Energy is seeking a Senior Manager to build and lead the Integrated Business Planning (IBP) and demand planning team for owner-furnished, contractor-installed (OFCI) power and cooling equipment. You will own the portfolio equipment demand plan, demand/supply scenarios, and planning recommendations for constrained equipment allocation.
Working with SB Energy’s clients, OEMs, and vendors, you will align equipment availability with customer milestones while improving total cost of ownership (TCO) and limiting excess capital exposure. You will make independent planning decisions from day one, incorporating approved product roadmaps, fungibility, and multi-sourcing options. You will build a team with sufficient planning capacity and category expertise to support the full equipment portfolio.
Responsibilities
Equipment coverage applies to the categories below when designated OFCI for a project. Power scope begins downstream of the HV substation.
Power equipment
- Distribution: MV/LV switchgear, ring main units, switchboards, panelboards, standalone motor-control centers/ drives, and power, distribution, and isolation transformers.
- Backup and stored power: generators and integral fuel, starting, and exhaust auxiliaries; paralleling gear; MV/LV UPS; batteries/BESS; chargers and DC power systems.
- Transfer and final distribution: ATS/STS, busway/busduct, power distribution units, remote power panels, rack PDUs, and power cables and terminations.
- Packaged power: electrical skids, e-houses, modular power blocks, and packaged substations downstream of the HV substation.
- Protection and monitoring: relays, metering, electrical power management systems, control panels, power-quality equipment, surge protection, grounding assemblies, and load banks.
Cooling equipment
- Cooling and heat rejection: air- and water-cooled chillers, cooling towers, dry coolers, adiabatic/fluid coolers, and heat exchangers.
- Airside cooling: CRAH/CRAC units, air-handling units, fan walls, in-row cooling, and rear-door heat exchangers.
- Liquid cooling: coolant distribution units, direct-to-chip and immersion cooling packages, manifolds, cold plates, hoses, and quick disconnects.
- Hydronics and water: pumps and integral drives, piping/valve skids, strainers, buffer/expansion/storage tanks, pressurization, makeup water, filtration, and water treatment.
- Packaged cooling: modular plants and cooling skids, integral controls, instrumentation, and leak detection.
Role accountabilities
- Build, hire, and lead an IBP and equipment demand planning team sized to deliver power and cooling category planning and portfolio analysis. Establish planning ownership, develop planners, manage performance, and allocate resources to maintain reliable coverage across the portfolio.
- Own the consolidated , time-phased equipment demand plan. Translate client demand, portfolio plans, project phasing, required-on-site dates, and approved configurations into quantities and timing. Reconcile assumptions directly with clients and internal project owners.
- Own planning master data, forecast assumptions, and demand revision control. Reference Supplier Engineering’s controlled BOD/BOM and approved fungibility records; reconcile engineering revisions and eliminate duplicate or obsolete demand.
- Own the IBP consensus cycle and demand/supply scenarios. Combine Category Procurement’s vendor commitments, Supplier Engineering’s verified manufacturing constraints, and TPM’s readiness dates to identify feasible coverage and gaps.
- Recommend allocation, reservations, contingencies, and project sequencing under constrained supply. Quantify capital and cash timing, cancellation, storage, obsolescence, and delay exposure. Make planning decisions within delegated authority and obtain approvals for material commitments.
- Plan equipment pooling, redeployment, and multi-source allocations using technically approved fungibility. Reflect product-roadmap transitions and qualification timing in demand scenarios. Domain engineers approve substitutions; Category Procurement owns sourcing awards and contracts.
- Work with clients, vendors, Category Procurement, and Finance to optimize availability and TCO. Evaluate inventory and reservation tradeoffs, lifecycle demand, and approved alternative supply without changing technical acceptance requirements.
- Own planning horizons, freeze windows, change thresholds, and demand-confidence assumptions. Quantify portfolio effects of client changes and supply disruption; provide agreed priorities to TPM, which owns package-level execution scheduling and change coordination.
- Track forecast accuracy/bias, demand volatility, supply coverage, capacity gaps, and excess equipment exposure. Improve planning through connected data and scenario analysis; technical product decisions, supplier qualification, and execution tracking remain with their designated owners.
Qualifications/Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in supply chain, engineering, operations research, finance, business, or a related discipline required . An MBA, relevant master’s degree, or ASCM/APICS credential is preferred.
- 10+ years in IBP, sales and operations planning, capital equipment demand planning, or supply planning, including substantial data center development or deployment experience.
- Deep planning expertise and success building and leading planning teams. Experience hiring and developing category planners and analysts, managing performance, and allocating capacity across a growing equipment portfolio.
- Extensive OEM supply-planning experience or direct planning against OEM capacity, long-lead equipment, engineered configurations, and factory commitments. Understanding of engineering changes and supply feasibility.
- Strong knowledge of power and cooling equipment and the relationship between portfolio capacity, redundancy, equipment quantities, project phasing, installation, and commissioning.
- Ownership of cross-functional IBP or comparable planning processes that improved supply visibility and equipment availability. Ability to challenge forecasts and build consensus around explicit assumptions.
- Quantitative and commercial judgment in scenarios, forecast bias, TCO, capital timing, reservations, and allocation. Experience planning product transitions, approved fungible equipment pools, and multi-source supply.
- Proficiency in spreadsheet modeling, ERP or advanced planning systems, and business intelligence. Strong master-data and configuration/BOM skills. SQL or advanced analytics experience is preferred.
- Independent judgment under ambiguity and credible communication with clients, OEMs, vendors, and executives. Willingness to travel to supplier facilities, client locations, and project sites as needed.
Working arrangements
Assignments may span projects, equipment categories, suppliers, and locations and may change with business needs. The role includes supplier, factory, warehouse, and active construction site visits, coordination across time zones, and compliance with site safety and access requirements. Managers lead execution through qualified suppliers and project resources.
Location: Redwood City, CA; San Diego, CA; Denver, CO; Phoenix, AZ; Austin, TX
Remote may be considered on a case by case basis.
