About this role
Under the clinical and administrative direction of the UCLA ALS Program Medical Director, the Per Diem Respiratory Therapist provides specialized respiratory care and support within the multidisciplinary ALS Clinic. Responsibilities include performing physician-ordered respiratory assessments and pulmonary function testing; evaluating patient respiratory needs; recommending and supporting noninvasive ventilation, cough-assist, airway clearance, and aerosolized medication delivery therapies; and educating patients and caregivers on respiratory disease management and the proper use and maintenance of home respiratory equipment.
The Respiratory Therapist will document patient care in the electronic medical record, communicate clinical findings and recommendations to the multidisciplinary care team, troubleshoot respiratory equipment issues, and contribute to the clinic’s patient care, quality improvement, and operational initiatives.
Compensation : $69.01 per hour. This position may be eligible for conversion to a career appointment.
- Current California Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP) license required
- Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential issued by the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC)
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross (ARC)
- Associate degree from an accredited respiratory therapy program
- Knowledge of current respiratory care practices, therapies, equipment, and clinical standards
- Demonstrated ability to perform comprehensive respiratory assessments and pulmonary function testing
- Proficiency in the setup, monitoring, and troubleshooting of respiratory equipment, including noninvasive ventilation, home ventilators, cough-assist devices, airway clearance systems, and aerosolized medication delivery devices
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to effectively communicate with patients, caregivers, physicians, and interdisciplinary team members
- Ability to provide patient and caregiver education in a clear, compassionate, and professional manner
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively within a multidisciplinary healthcare team
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize multiple responsibilities, maintain accurate documentation, and meet established deadlines
- Experience working with patients with neuromuscular disorders or chronic respiratory diseases preferred
- Outpatient clinic experience preferred
