About the Role
This role sits within Customer Protection, Fraud Analytics and serves as the team's senior individual contributor and subject matter expert in application and origination fraud.
The Fraud Prevention Specialist is responsible for using advanced analytics, industry intelligence and deep fraud expertise to identify emerging fraud risks, design prevention and detection strategies, and influence fraud outcomes across customer onboarding, lending and account opening journeys. The role works closely with stakeholders across Fraud, Product, Risk, Operations and Technology to balance fraud loss mitigation with customer experience and business growth objectives.
The role operates in a rapidly changing environment where fraud threats, customer behaviours, technologies and regulatory expectations continue to evolve. As a recognised specialist, the role provides thought leadership, technical guidance and mentorship across the analytics team while remaining hands-on in the development of fraud strategies and controls

What will your day look like?
- Leading the design, development and optimisation of fraud prevention strategies and controls across application and onboarding journeys.
- Providing specialist fraud expertise and thought leadership to identify emerging threats, influence strategic decisions and improve fraud outcomes.
- Delivering advanced analytics, insights and recommendations that balance fraud risk, customer experience and commercial objectives.
- Partnering with stakeholders across Fraud, Risk, Product, Operations and Technology to drive effective fraud risk management and support strategic initiatives.
- Building team capability through technical leadership, mentoring and the promotion of best practice analytical approaches.

The ‘must have’ knowledge, skill and experience (KSE) the role requires are:
- Deep expertise in application fraud, identity fraud and emerging fraud typologies within banking or financial services.
- Advanced analytical capability with strong SQL skills and experience working with large, complex datasets.
- Proven experience designing, implementing and optimising fraud detection and prevention strategies.
- Strong stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence decisions and communicate complex insights to technical and non-technical audiences.
- Demonstrated ability to lead complex analytical initiatives and translate data into practical business outcomes.
- Experience coaching and mentoring analysts to build technical capability and analytical excellence.
The ‘good to have’ knowledge, skill and experience (KSE) the role requires are:
- Experience with fraud prevention and decisioning platforms such as Hunter or similar fraud systems.
- Proficiency in Python, SAS, R or other advanced analytics tools.
- Experience working with cloud-based analytics environments such as GCP BigQuery.
- Knowledge of digital identity, credit bureau and external fraud intelligence solutions.
- Experience applying machine learning, behavioural analytics or advanced modelling techniques to fraud problems.
- Understanding of broader fraud, scam and financial crime risk management frameworks.
Qualifications
- 5+ years' experience in fraud, financial crime, risk analytics or related analytical roles within banking or financial services.
- Demonstrated experience in application fraud, onboarding fraud, identity fraud or customer risk management.
- Tertiary qualification in a relevant discipline such as Mathematics, Statistics, Data Analytics, Business, Computer Science, Economics or equivalent practical experience.
- Ongoing professional development in fraud, analytics, risk management or related disciplines viewed favourably.
