Role Objective / Major Purpose of the Job
The Head – New Product Development (Business Unit) is responsible for identifying, evaluating, developing, and commercializing new products within the assigned Business Unit. The role drives the BU's product pipeline by collaborating with R&D, Medical Affairs, Regulatory Affairs, Marketing, Supply Chain, Manufacturing, and Commercial teams to ensure timely launches and sustainable portfolio growth.
Principal Tasks & Responsibilities
Portfolio Planning & Product Strategy
Develop the annual NPD roadmap for the assigned Business Unit.
Identify new product opportunities aligned with the BU strategy.
Conduct portfolio gap analysis and recommend new product additions.
Prioritize products based on commercial potential, market demand, and strategic fit.
Drive lifecycle management initiatives for existing products.
Product Development & Commercialization
Coordinate with R&D for formulation and development activities.
Track product development milestones.
Support technology transfer and commercial manufacturing readiness.
Ensure timely execution of product launch plans.
Resolve project bottlenecks through cross-functional coordination.
Market Intelligence
Monitor market trends and competitor activities.
Analyze new product launches by competitors.
Evaluate patent expiries and emerging therapeutic opportunities.
Identify differentiation opportunities for the BU portfolio.
Project Management
Develop and monitor project timelines.
Track milestones and deliverables.
Coordinate cross-functional project review meetings.
Manage project risks and mitigation plans.
Ensure projects remain within agreed timelines.
Regulatory Support
Work with Regulatory Affairs to ensure timely dossier submissions.
Support product registrations for domestic and international markets.
Ensure development complies with applicable regulatory requirements.
Product Launch Support
Coordinate launch readiness activities.
Partner with Marketing to develop launch plans.
Provide scientific and technical inputs during product launches.
Monitor launch performance and recommend corrective actions.
Business Performance
Monitor product performance post-launch.
Identify opportunities for portfolio expansion.
Recommend line extensions and lifecycle improvements.
Support achievement of BU revenue and profitability targets.
