About the Team
The Operational Risk Management (ORM) team facilitates and monitors the implementation of effective operational risk management programs across the enterprise and oversees risk ownership across business units, products, and processes.
Within ORM, the Issues & Events Analytics team transforms operational risk data into actionable insights that support executive decision-making, strengthen governance, and drive continuous improvement. The team is also responsible for building AI-enabled solutions for Issues & Events and acting as a bridge between Issues & Events, broader ORM priorities, and enterprise AI and automation initiatives. Furthermore, team develops enterprise reporting capabilities, performs advanced analytics, identifies systemic risk themes, and partners across the organization to improve how operational risk is measured, understood, and managed.
Role Summary
ORM is looking for an Analyst, Issues and Events Analytics , to help drive AI and automation enablement for the Issues & Events team. The role will identify, design, and support scalable AI-enabled and automation-driven solutions that strengthen operational risk management, improve reporting efficiency, and enhance insight quality.
This role is ideal for someone who combines analytical judgment, operational risk knowledge, and practical technology adoption to solve business problems, build fit-for-purpose solutions, and apply emerging AI capabilities responsibly in a governed environment.
Reporting directly to the Director, Issues and Events Analytics, you will partner closely with ORM stakeholders, Business Units, Technology, Compliance, and central AI/automation teams to shape use cases, align with enterprise standards, support solution delivery, and promote best practices across the Issues & Events ecosystem.
Required Qualifications
- 1-3 years of experience in Analytics, Business Intelligence, Operational Risk, Governance, Strategy, Consulting, Automation, AI enablement, or related analytical functions.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities with the ability to derive meaningful business insights from complex datasets.
- Demonstrated ability to convert business problems into structured solution requirements, analytical approaches, or automation use cases.
- Experience developing executive presentations, dashboards, management reporting, or data-driven business narratives.
- Excellent communication and storytelling skills, with the ability to translate technical concepts, risks, and solutions into clear recommendations for business stakeholders.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint skills.
- Experience with one or more analytical, automation, or AI-enabled tools such as SQL, Python, Tableau, Power BI, Alteryx, workflow automation platforms, enterprise-approved generative AI tools, AI-assisted productivity solutions, prompt-based analysis tools, low-code/no-code automation platforms, or similar technologies.
- Comfortable leveraging AI-powered tools responsibly to enhance productivity, accelerate analysis, improve reporting quality, summarize large volumes of information, support knowledge management, generate insights, and assist with solution design while adhering to organizational policies, data handling requirements, and ethical AI practices.
- Ability to apply practical AI techniques, including effective prompt writing, output validation, human-in-the-loop review, AI-assisted research, document summarization, pattern identification, and workflow simplification in a controlled business environment.
- Bachelor's or Master's degree from a reputed Tier 1 institution.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience within Operational Risk Management, Issues Management, Governance, Internal Audit, Risk Analytics, or related second-line risk functions.
- Experience supporting AI, automation, process improvement, workflow optimization, knowledge management, or advanced analytics initiatives in a corporate environment.
- Familiarity with responsible AI principles, enterprise governance processes, data privacy considerations, and controls required for governed technology adoption.
- Experience performing root cause analysis, thematic analysis, enterprise reporting, or operational risk data quality reviews.
- Familiarity with data governance, reporting methodologies, and quality management principles.
- Knowledge of American Express governance processes, operational risk frameworks, or enterprise reporting standards.
