Job Title: SFA Job Description This SFA role provides strategic and operational support during a major finance transformation. You will work directly with the CFO, the Finance Leadership Team, and the Project Manager to maintain day-to-day finance operations while contributing to key transformation initiatives. The position is ideal for a hands-on finance professional who enjoys a dynamic environment, can flex across accounting, financial reporting, regulatory reporting, FP&A, and project support, and thrives on balancing operational responsibilities with change and improvement work. Responsibilities

- Support monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close processes to ensure accurate and timely reporting.
- Prepare and review journal entries, account reconciliations, and supporting schedules for the general ledger.
- Analyze balance sheet and income statement fluctuations and provide clear explanations for variances.
- Prepare financial statements and management reporting packages for leadership.
- Maintain audit-ready supporting documentation and uphold strong internal controls.
- Support internal and external audit requirements by providing schedules, explanations, and documentation.
- Support regulatory reporting activities, including OSFI and other regulatory submissions.
- Prepare regulatory reporting schedules, reconciliations, and supporting documentation.
- Assist in the completion and review of regulatory filings, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
- Ensure regulatory reporting complies with all applicable requirements and standards.
- Assist with IFRS 17-related process enhancements and implementation activities within the finance function.
- Support testing, controls validation, data verification, and user acceptance testing for new or enhanced processes and systems.
- Participate in finance systems and process improvement initiatives to enhance efficiency and control.
- Provide analysis and subject matter support for finance transformation projects.
- Contribute to future ERP, reporting, and finance system implementations by supporting design, testing, and rollout.
- Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning activities across the organization.
- Support the development of financial models and analytical reports to inform decision-making.
- Perform variance analysis on budgets and forecasts and provide insightful commentary to the business.
- Assist with the preparation of management presentations and executive reporting materials.
- Provide operational backfill support for finance managers and key contributors involved in transformation projects.
- Take ownership of critical finance processes as required to ensure continuity of operations.
- Help reduce workload across the finance team during peak periods and project milestones.
- Quickly adapt to changing priorities and business needs while maintaining high-quality output.
- Collaborate closely with accounting, reporting, FP&A, and project teams to drive results and support transformation objectives.
- Demonstrate strong ownership, initiative, and leadership in a role without direct people management responsibilities.

Essential Skills

- 58+ years of progressive accounting and finance experience, with the ability to operate at a manager level without direct people management responsibilities.
- Experience within Property & Casualty (P&C) insurance is required, with P&C strongly preferred over other insurance sectors.
- Proven experience in financial reporting, including preparation of financial statements and management reporting packages.
- Hands-on experience with month-end and quarter-end close processes, including journal entries, reconciliations, and general ledger maintenance.
- Strong experience in regulatory reporting, including experience with OSFI or similar regulatory bodies.
- Demonstrated expertise in FP&A activities such as budgeting, forecasting, financial planning, and financial analysis.
- Proficiency in variance analysis and the ability to provide clear business insights based on financial results.
- Solid understanding of internal controls and the ability to maintain audit-ready documentation.
- Experience supporting finance transformation, process improvement, or systems implementation initiatives.
- Ability to independently manage finance processes with minimal supervision.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present financial information clearly to stakeholders.
- Proven ability to adapt within changing business environments and manage shifting priorities effectively.
- Demonstrated ownership mindset, initiative, and collaboration skills in a cross-functional finance setting.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

- CPA designation is preferred.
- Bachelors degree in Accounting, Finance, Commerce, or a related field.
- Experience with IFRS 17-related process enhancements, implementation activities, or reporting is an asset.
- Exposure to ERP systems such as SAP and Oracle, particularly in the context of finance transformations or integrations.
- Experience with governance frameworks and controls within a finance environment.
- Demonstrated leadership capabilities in influencing processes and outcomes without direct people management.
- Experience participating in or supporting finance system implementations and upgrades.
- Proven ability to work collaboratively across teams and build strong working relationships with finance leadership.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to develop financial models and analytical reporting.
- Comfort working in a highly visible role that interacts frequently with the CFO and finance leaders.

Work Environment This role operates in a hybrid work model, with an expectation of working in the Toronto office three days per week within a 37.5-hour work week. The finance team functions in a small, collaborative, and highly visible environment where team members work closely with the CFO and contribute across multiple areas of finance, including accounting, reporting, FP&A, and project support. The culture is very hands-on and encourages adaptability, strong communication, and a willingness to roll up your sleeves wherever support is needed. The environment is dynamic due to ongoing finance transformation initiatives, including exposure to IFRS 17, systems implementations, ERP and reporting enhancements, and process improvements. Team members are expected to be comfortable navigating changing priorities, working independently, and partnering across functions to help drive results.
Job Type & Location
This is a Contract position based out of Toronto, ON.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $50.00 - $65.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
