About this role

Overview

As the VP, of Whole Life, Term and Additional Benefit Pricing you will play a key role in Northwestern Mutual’s growth and long-term success by leading a team of actuaries to develop, price, and support the launch of products that deliver high value for our customers and align with Northwestern Mutual’s long-term strategy. You will manage a team of 4 to 5 individuals on the Product Pricing team within the Actuarial department and work cross-functionally across the enterprise on initiatives such as product design, underwriting, field engagement, and evolving regulatory issues. You will balance product economics, risk, and market competitiveness; help develop and test creative solutions to challenges encountered in product design, pricing, and implementation processes.  In addition, you will oversee Northwestern's compliance with Product Taxation regulations.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

- Provides professional actuarial advice and services to Northwestern Mutual by assisting in the achievement of overall Company goals by functioning as a leader of team activities, direction of team members and/or through individual performance.

- Defines and executes the long-term pricing strategy for whole life and term products and additional benefits aligning pricing and product priorities with enterprise objectives, customer needs, market dynamics, and established growth and risk management guidelines.

- Leads product pricing and actuarial analysis across the whole life and term product portfolio, overseeing pricing models, scenario analysis, and other actuarial assessments to support profitable growth and sound risk management.

- Provides strategic actuarial leadership and expertise to support company objectives, applying sound actuarial judgment to product design, pricing, and complex business decisions.

- Anticipates regulatory, economic, competitive, underwriting, and customer trends and incorporates them into product pricing, design, and complex business decisions.

- Advises senior leadership on product design, pricing, profitability, and risk, translating complex actuarial analysis into clear business implications and actionable recommendations that enable informed decision-making.

- Drives continuous improvement of pricing capabilities, tools, models, and processes, identifying opportunities to enhance analytical rigor, efficiency, scalability, and the quality of pricing insights.

- Builds, develops, and retains a high-performing actuarial team through coaching, mentorship, succession planning, and talent development, fostering an inclusive culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous growth.

Qualifications

- Fellow of the Society of Actuaries.

- 10 years of significant Actuarial experience. Experience with life products preferred.

- Substantial knowledge and experience in a variety of actuarial subjects.

- Proven ability to build and sustain high-performing teams, develop leadership talent, and create an engaging environment that attracts and retains top actuarial professionals.

- Ability to manage interdepartmental projects and to direct activities of team members.

- High degree of expertise in one or more areas of Departmental activities.

- Knowledge of Company, industry and regulatory practices and procedures including a high-level understanding of Product Taxation rules.

Compensation Range:

Pay Range - Start:

$176,000.00

Pay Range - End:

$264,000.00

This role is eligible for additional short-term and long-term incentive compensation.
