JOB SUMMARY

As part of the management team, the Operations Manager supports the Regional Manager in overseeing site operations, including sales, production, purchasing, customer service, and team leadership. The role ensures safe, environmentally compliant operations in a metal/scrap recycling environment, primarily focused on shredder operations across union and non-union teams.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

·         Proactively reduce safety risks and promote a “safety-first” culture

·         Manage staffing schedules and oversee the day-to-day operations of the site

·         Provide performance feedback, counseling, coaching, and training to team members

·         Ensure policies and procedures are communicated and implemented by conducting weekly facility audit tours; work with Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) to meet and implement company standards; and work with the Production Supervisor to develop, train, and implement standard operating procedures

·         Prepare operating reports for the management and operations teams to ensure the overall safeguarding of company assets

·         Ensure compliance with all applicable regulations, policies, and company standards to achieve operational objectives

·         Solicit operational information to provide recommendations for strategic plans and reviews; prepare and execute action plans; implement production, productivity, quality, and customer service standards; resolve problems; complete audits; and identify trends

·         Develop and maintain operational systems by determining product handling and storage requirements; developing, implementing, enforcing, and evaluating policies and procedures; and establishing processes for receiving products, equipment utilization, inventory management, and shipping

·         Analyze process workflows, employee and space requirements, and equipment layouts; implement improvements as required

·         Establish and enforce standards and procedures and ensure compliance with applicable legal regulations to maintain a safe and healthy work environment; work with Transport Canada on rail safety and securement requirements

·         Develop and maintain equipment maintenance schedules

·         Ensure optimal freight weights for rail cars by working with supervisors and operators to maximize loads; review daily weight reports and work with operators to improve rail-car weights based on actual KPI results

·         Monitor and manage the shredder’s Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) to maximize operational efficiency

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

·         5+ years of management or leadership experience in industrial manufacturing, automotive or distribution

·         Scrap Metal experience highly preferred.

·         High school diploma or equivalent required, bachelor’s preferred

·         Post secondary an asset

·         Experience with mobile equipment, repairs and operations an asset

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES

·         Proven leadership and communication skills

·         Proficiency in Microsoft Office

·         Solid quantitative skills to understand site financial performance and operating statistics (KPIs)

·         Ability to reconcile sales, prepare reports and read technical manuals

·         Ability to handle multiple priorities while performing quality work in an efficient manner with minimal supervision

·         Ability to work required hours which includes weekends and holidays and also at any site assigned within reasonable distance from home site
