POSITION SUMMARY
The Senior Product and Labeling Inspector safeguards product quality and manufacturing readiness by coordinating end-of-line inspection, labeling, packaging, and product transfers. In Empower’s hyper-growth, highly regulated 503A/503B environment, this individual contributor owns accurate execution against master batch records and established procedures, rejects nonconforming units, and maintains reliable documentation. The role connects daily production priorities with patient safety, quality, and delivery outcomes, using sound judgment to identify deviations and coordinate timely, appropriate resolution. As a technical resource and secondary contact to the Product and Labeling Supervisor, the inspector trains and mentors colleagues, supports packaging equipment qualification, and strengthens consistent work practices. Success requires disciplined execution, practical problem-solving, and rapid learning as demands evolve, translating process observations and LEAN improvement activities into efficient workflows without compromising inspection accuracy, safe handling, or compliance.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Product Quality and Inspection
- Product Inspection : Inspect products against master batch records and standard operating procedures, rejecting nonconforming units to protect quality and patient safety.
- Labeling Accuracy : Label and package products according to master batch records and approved procedures, operating equipment consistently to maintain accuracy and quality.
- Workflow Coordination : Coordinate product transfers across cleanrooms, inspection, labeling, packaging, quarantine, and refrigerated areas to maintain controlled movement and efficient workflow.
Execution and Regulated Operations
- Documentation Accuracy: Perform required calculations and record processing activities accurately, using Microsoft Word and Excel to maintain documentation and performance trackers.
- Deviation Resolution: Identify inspection, labeling, or packaging deviations, exercise sound judgment, and coordinate resolution with appropriate colleagues while following established procedures.
- Equipment Qualification: Qualify packaging equipment in collaboration with cross-functional teams, following established procedures to support reliable operation and manufacturing readiness.
Technical Leadership and Continuous Improvement
- Peer Development: Train new hires and mentor colleagues in inspection, labeling, and packaging procedures, reinforcing consistent execution and serving as a technical resource.
- Process Improvement: Apply LEAN methods, including 6S, Go and See, and Kaizen, to improve work processes while maintaining quality and delivery standards.
- Workplace Discipline: Maintain clean, hygienic work areas and reinforce safe work practices, addressing observed issues collaboratively to support reliable daily operations.
KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS
- Knowledge of visual inspection techniques, labeling accuracy checks, and packaging equipment operation, including recognizing nonconforming products against documented acceptance requirements.
- Ability to perform accurate process calculations, maintain complete batch documentation, and use Microsoft Word and Excel for records and performance trackers.
- Skill in coordinating product transfers and communicating deviations clearly across functions while following established procedures, maintaining hygiene, and supporting safe workflows.
- Ability to train colleagues on inspection, labeling, and packaging procedures and apply LEAN methods, including 6S, Go and See, and Kaizen.
EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS
- At least 2 years of product inspection or labeling experience, with demonstrated accuracy when following detailed instructions and documenting completed work required.
- High school diploma or equivalent, with the practical reading, calculation, and documentation skills needed to follow detailed production instructions required.
- Experience in Current Good Manufacturing Practice (cGMP) environments or pharmaceutical manufacturing, including familiarity with visual inspection, labeling, and packaging equipment required.
- 20/20 nearsighted vision and average color vision to conduct detailed visual inspections and identify product, labeling, and packaging discrepancies required.
- Experience training new hires, mentoring colleagues, or participating in LEAN improvement activities, including 6S, Go and See, or Kaizen preferred.
