Assistant Professor, Mathematics Education

The School of Education at Xavier University invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor specializing in Mathematics Education, beginning Fall 2027. This position will teach mathematics education coursework serving our Primary, Secondary, and Special Education licensure programs at the undergraduate and graduate levels and will pursue an active research and scholarship agenda consistent with tenure-track expectations.

Primary Responsibilities

- Provide instruction for a variety of mathematics education and teacher preparation courses, including elementary and secondary math methods courses.

- Maintain an active program of scholarly research and professional activity in mathematics education, consistent with tenure-track expectations.

- Advise and mentor students pursuing licensure and degree programs.

- Collaborate with the Program Directors and Field Coordinator regarding field experiences related to mathematics instruction.

- Maintain student records and data, ensuring students are meeting program and licensure requirements, and support state and national accreditation.

- Contribute to the service responsibilities of the School of Education, College, and University.

- Sustain and develop relationships with area schools and districts.

Required Qualifications

- A Doctorate in Mathematics Education, Curriculum and Instruction with specialization in Mathematics, STEM Education with specialization in Mathematics, or a closely related field.

- A valid professional educator license, and the ability to be licensed in Ohio within the first year of employment.

- Minimum 5 years’ related K-12 teaching experience while holding a professional educator license.

- Evidence of, or strong potential for, scholarly research and publication in mathematics education.

- Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.

- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team within the School of Education.

- An understanding of and commitment to Xavier University’s Jesuit Catholic mission and identity.

Preferred Qualifications

- Experience in interdisciplinary STEM education.

- Collegiate teaching experience.

- Experience with online or hybrid course delivery.

- Experience with state and/or national accreditation processes (e.g., CAEP, ODHE).

Teaching Load, Tenure-Track:

The teaching expectation is 18 credit hours annually for this tenure-track faculty position when a faculty member meets the College's active scholarship standards
