Clinical Assistant Professor, Psychology
‌

The School of Psychology at Xavier University invites applications for one full-time, non-tenure-track, faculty position at the Clinical Assistant Professor rank, beginning Fall 2027. The position will support our APA-accredited clinical psychology doctoral (Psy.D.) program and our undergraduate psychology major.  Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.

The Psy.D. program has a strong record of success, including 10-year accreditation status with APA. The program draws highly competitive applicants from across the country and admits cohorts of approximately 18 students each year. Students receive generalist, practitioner-scientist training, along with specialized coursework in one or more focus areas: Child and Adolescent, Individuals with Severe and Chronic Problems & Psychopathology (ISCPP), and Healthcare Psychology (HCP). Over the past five years, 94% of our students have matched to an APA accredited internship site and 98% of our graduates are licensed psychologists.

We also have a thriving undergraduate major (170-200 students) and minor (70-75 students) in psychology. Undergraduate psychology majors all participate in at least one research project, with students presenting annually at regional conferences. The School of Psychology offers an honors thesis option for our majors, and recently implemented our first specialization (industrial-organizational psychology). Equipping students with the empirical and critical thinking skills needed to effectively serve others is central to our undergraduate focus. Faculty teach in both the undergraduate and graduate programs.

The teaching expectation is 24 credit hours annually for the clinical assistant professor faculty position, which may include clinical supervision in the Psy.D. program. The faculty member is expected to engage in service as well as additional departmental duties, and could engage in mentored research if so desired. Xavier University’s Faculty Handbook includes a progression for non-tenure-track faculty that parallels the ranks for tenure-track faculty (i.e., Clinical Assistant Professor to Clinical Associate Professor), with contract renewal contingent on performance in teaching and service. It is our hope and expectation that all colleagues will experience long and fulfilling careers at Xavier University.

Candidates should have earned a doctoral degree (Ph.D. or Psy.D.) from an APA-accredited clinical psychology, counseling psychology, or related program, and must also be licensed or license-eligible in the state of Ohio (expectation of Ohio license within one year of hire). We invite individuals of various theoretical orientations and areas of clinical expertise to apply, and are especially interested in candidates with any of the following:

- Expertise in development, children, and/or adolescents;
- Capable of teaching and supervising cognitive assessment;
- Training in clinical neuropsychology, particularly as relates to the prior two needs.

The School of Psychology is part of the College of Health and Human Sciences . To be considered, applicants should submit a letter of interest, curriculum vitae, evidence of teaching effectiveness (such as student or peer evaluations, if available), and a list of three references. The letter of interest should address the applicant’s clinical/counseling expertise, experience in teaching, and relevant service to our profession or professional institutions. These materials should be submitted on Xavier’s website . Letters of recommendation will be requested after initial screening interviews.

The School of Psychology is hiring for both a tenure-track Assistant Professor and a non-tenure-track Clinical Assistant Professor this year. Qualified candidates are welcome to apply for both positions, if they so desire. The Assistant Professor posting can be found HERE.

Review of candidates will begin on October 19, 2026 with anticipated on-campus interviews in early December. Applications will be accepted until the position closes at the University’s discretion. For questions about the positions, please contact the School of Psychology Search Committee Chair, Morrie Mullins ( [email protected] ).
