AES is seeking a Director, Strategic Sourcing – Gas and Power to establish and lead the gas and power categories within the Strategic Sourcing function. Reporting to the Vice President of Strategic Sourcing, this position will be responsible for developing AES strategy around gas and fuel cell equipment purchasing to support the AES Renewables & Power business, leading contracting efforts with suppliers and collaborating with project teams to ensure the safe and timely supply of reliable equipment and services at optimal cost and quality to AES projects.

The ideal candidate will be capable of coordinating and collaborating with multiple teams across AES, be proactive in project team meetings, and take responsibility for ensuring the successful purchase of equipment to support our gas and power project pipeline. Prior experience in gas and fuel cell project development and/or construction, business development, and other areas of the gas and power sector strongly preferred.

This position will be ideally based in Louisville, CO. AES provides a flexible working environment, and remote work is possible with approval of location. Limited travel will also be required (~30%).

Primary Responsibilities:

Manage and lead gas-generation contracting efforts across AES’ Renewables & Power businesses; develop and negotiate strategic supply agreements and lead a team to ensure safe and timely supply of equipment

Establish and cultivate strategic relationships with equipment vendors and develop a robust purchasing strategy including preferred vendors, pricing, terms and conditions

Establish and maintain best-in-class sourcing and procurement processes for new generation projects, major maintenance projects, and technology improvements to exploit the advantages of the global supply base

Develop and maintain an understanding of technology trends, energy market forces, cost trends and supplier technology road maps

Partner with Engineering, Construction, and Development teams to implement the unified strategy as defined to deliver equipment in a safe and timely manner

Review purchase order claims and contracts for conformance to organizational policy and monitor and remediate defects and delivery problems with suppliers

Work with project and procurement teams to define sourcing strategies, including the exploration of alternate sources of supply, consolidation of requirements and equipment across AES businesses, alternative solutions or technologies, cost avoidance, standardization, etc.

Foster collaborative partnerships, internally and externally, to ensure achievement of Strategic Sourcing and AES company goals

Skills & Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain/Procurement/Sourcing, Legal, Business, Administration or Engineering or other technical field from accredited entity.

Minimum 10 years of gas and power-related experience

5+ years managing a team

Strong negotiations skills with contract negotiation experience

Financial knowledge for cash-flow evaluation of a project (cost of capital, IRR, NPV)

Demonstrated success working to develop consensus from diverse opinions in a highly fluid and sometimes ambiguous multi-cultural environment

Well-developed supplier network and ability to build and leverage strategic partnerships

Knowledge and experience with sourcing/procuring power plant/utility equipment, services and construction

Experience in developing Total Cost of Ownership and other business models

Proficient with MS Office suite, Quickbase, and other software systems

Experience in supplier qualification and supplier development

The expected salary for this position, at commencement of employment, is between $183,000 and $238,000/year; however, base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position also includes annual bonus and long term compensation. The benefits offered for this position are: medical, dental, and vision coverage, life insurance, 401(k) eligibility, and paid time off (including vacation, sick leave time, and parental leave). If hired, employee will be in an “at-will position” and the Company reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, Company or individual department/team performance, and market factors.
