Course Description:
CPSE 647 is a professional training course in psychometrics and the assessment of intelligence. The course addresses the theory, administration, scoring, and interpretation of standardized measures of cognitive, academic, and adaptive functioning and gives an overview of neuropsychological assessment of autism and ADHD. Students develop skills with commonly used assessment instruments, practice administration and scoring procedures, synthesize multiple sources of assessment information, and communicate findings in clear written reports. Emphasis is placed on psychometric foundations, culturally responsive and ethical assessment, and the use of assessment results to guide educational decision-making and recommendations in school and related settings.
Required Degree:
Graduate degree in School Psychology, Clinical Psychology, or Counseling Psychology. Licensed psychologists strongly preferred .
The required degree must be completed before the position start date.
Experience:
- Minimum of 3 years of professional experience conducting psychoeducational or psychological assessment with children and adolescents, preferably in school or educational settings. Assessment experience with adults is also required.
- Experience administering, scoring, interpreting, and communicating results from standardized cognitive, academic, and adaptive behavior assessments. Experience with neuropsychological assessment of autism and ADHD is also required.
- Experience writing clear, integrated, and legally defensible comprehensive psychoeducational assessment reports and making educational and other support recommendations.
- Knowledge of psychometric principles, test validity and reliability, culturally responsive assessment, and ethical and legal standards for assessment.
- Previous experience teaching graduate students.
Duties/Expectations:
The successful candidate will:
- Teach CPSE 647 in person, Mondays 8am to 11:50am, during Winter Semester, January 6-April 14, 2027, with finals week until April 21, 2027.
- Prepare graduate students to understand foundational psychometric concepts and the theory underlying cognitive, academic, adaptive behavior, and some neuropsychological assessment.
- Teach and evaluate student competencies in standardized test administration, scoring, interpretation, and synthesis of assessment findings, conclusions, and recommendations.
- Teach students to integrate test scores with background information, interviews, behavioral observations, and other data in written comprehensive psychoeducational reports.
- Promote culturally responsive, ethical, legally defensible, and strengths-based assessment practices, including clear communication of findings to families, educators, students or clients, and other professionals.
