JOB FUNCTION

Viking is looking for a Director of Partnership Events to build and lead a dedicated events function for the Firm. This is a newly created role. The Director of Partnership Events will own Viking’s marquee client events and bring expertise in event strategy, guest experience, sourcing, creativity, budgeting, contract negotiation, and KPIs. The role is intended to expand Viking’s event programs in support of client engagement and deal sourcing, provide leverage to the business lines that run events today without dedicated support, centralize vendor relationships to extract more value from them, and partner with Corporate Communications on the Firm’s growing conference, sponsorship, and speaking efforts. The role will report to the Head of Corporate Communications.

Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

- Planning and managing Viking’s marquee client events

- Building 12- to 18-month event plans aligned with the Firm’s business goals and priorities

- Establishing a systematic approach to event planning, preparation, execution, and post-mortem

- Implementing streamlined processes from intake through execution

- Selecting and managing event vendors, and negotiating contracts

- Owning event budgets

- Partnering with Corporate Communications on conference, sponsorship, and speaking opportunities

- Defining and reporting the KPIs by which Viking measures event effectiveness

QUALIFICATIONS

The ideal candidate will have:

- A record of academic and professional excellence

- 8 to 12 or more years of experience managing corporate event programs, preferably at a private investment firm

- Event strategy: experience building multi-quarter event calendars aligned to business priorities, rather than executing individual events in isolation

- Sourcing and vendor management: experience selecting and managing event vendors and negotiating contracts and rates

- Budget ownership: responsibility for event budgets, with a clear point of view on how spend should be planned, allocated, and evaluated

- Measurement: experience defining KPIs for events and reporting outcomes to senior stakeholders

The ideal candidate will demonstrate:

- Guest experience and creativity: thinks past the logistics to what an attendee will actually remember

- Business partnership: earns the trust of senior stakeholders and translates a business objective into the right format, audience, and agenda

- Attention to detail and organization: exceptionally precise and process-oriented; manages many concurrent programs and delivers under tight deadlines

- Judgment and discretion: makes sound decisions under time pressure and handles confidential investor and Firm information appropriately

- Composure and resourcefulness: steady when plans change on-site, and quick to find the workable alternative

The base salary range for this position in New York City is $150,000 to $180,000. In addition to base salary, Viking employees may be eligible for other forms of compensation and benefits, such as a discretionary bonus, 100% coverage of medical and dental premiums, and paid lunches. Actual compensation for successful candidates will be individually determined based on multiple factors including, but not limited to, a candidate’s skill set, experience, education, and other qualifications.
