Ready to shape the infrastructure behind low-latency electronic trading platforms?

Why HSBC

HSBC is one of the largest banking and financial services organizations in the world. Guided by our purpose of opening up a world of opportunity, our ambition is to become the world’s most trusted bank globally, putting customers at the heart of everything we do.

The Opportunity

Join Markets and Securities Services Information Technology (IT) as Regional Head of electronic Trading (eTrading) Infrastructure Engineering in Toronto, Canada. This role owns the regional infrastructure engineering capability supporting latency-sensitive and collocated electronic trading platforms. You’ll manage two infrastructure engineers while staying hands-on across data center compute, Linux, server hardware, network switching, and exchange connectivity. You’ll take end-to-end accountability for the regional infrastructure delivery pipeline aligned to agreed business priorities, alongside operational service performance and the regional risk and control agenda. Success means resilient, secure, and cost-effective services, strong control outcomes, and well-governed delivery across collocated data centers and exchange-facing infrastructure.

What you'll be doing

- Oversee and develop two infrastructure engineers, setting objectives, allocating work, and building succession and capability plans

- Own the regional delivery pipeline and roadmap, translating business priorities into committed plans, milestones, and measurable outcomes while managing dependencies and trade-offs

- Manage the regional infrastructure budget, forecasts, and investment cases, controlling capital and operating expenditure and supplier and hardware lifecycle decisions

- Govern service availability, capacity, resilience, and support readiness, coordinating incident, problem, change, and recovery through to permanent remediation

- Own the regional risk and control environment, including technology risk assessment, audit and regulatory actions, security and firmware compliance, evidence quality, and timely issue closure

- Design, build, configure, and troubleshoot infrastructure across collocated and enterprise data centers including Linux platforms, physical servers, network switches, cabling, out-of-band management, and low-latency connectivity

- Define and maintain regional reference architectures, engineering standards, design blueprints, build patterns, and operational procedures aligned with global strategy

- Build repeatable infrastructure delivery and validation pipelines using Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and automated testing, contributing production-quality Java and Ansible code

What we're looking for

- Bring substantial hands-on experience in infrastructure, network, or compute engineering with accountability for regional or business-critical services

- Manage a small engineering team, establishing priorities, assuring delivery, and developing technical capability

- Own budgets, forecasts, vendors, operational performance, and technology risk and control obligations

- Apply deep expertise across Linux, enterprise server hardware, data center and colocation environments, network switches, and physical infrastructure lifecycle management

- Use strong knowledge of low-latency networking including Transmission Control Protocol and Internet Protocol (TCP/IP), routing and switching, multicast, packet capture analysis, and exchange or market data connectivity

- Build continuous integration and continuous delivery (CI/CD) workflows and automated, version-controlled infrastructure delivery aligned to a Network Development and Operations (NetDevOps) approach

- Apply Behavior-Driven Development (BDD) and Test-Driven Development (TDD) to infrastructure and network engineering using repeatable lab and pre-production validation

- Write production code in Java, or bring equivalent demonstrable production coding experience in Python or a comparable language

- Build Infrastructure as Code (IaC) with Ansible including reusable roles and playbooks, automated testing, and integration into delivery pipelines
