Ready to build low-latency connectivity for electronic trading platforms?

Why HSBC

HSBC is one of the largest banking and financial services organizations in the world. Guided by our purpose of opening up a world of opportunity, our ambition is to become the world’s most trusted bank globally, putting customers at the heart of everything we do.

The Opportunity

You’ll join the eTrading infrastructure engineering team responsible for resilient deterministic and low-latency network services supporting electronic trading platforms. This hands-on role covers colocation environments plus exchange and client connectivity with a strong focus on packet-level troubleshooting latency measurement network telemetry and automated testing. You’ll have end-to-end engineering responsibility for the design deployment validation and operational support of network connectivity across collocated data centers exchanges clients carriers and internal trading platforms. Success means delivering secure observable and high-performing connectivity with actionable telemetry and repeatable automated validation that makes network delivery safer and faster. You’ll work closely with trading application engineering operations carriers’ exchanges and data center providers to deliver connectivity outcomes.

What you'll be doing

- Own design installation configuration and support of network infrastructure in colocation facilities including switches routers cross-connects structured cabling optics out-of-band access and resilient power and path arrangements

- Deliver and support low-latency connectivity to exchanges market data venues and trading service providers including physical circuits routing multicast session readiness certification support and production cutover

- Engineer secures and resilient client-facing connectivity using appropriate routing segmentation and redundancy patterns and coordinate requirements testing and implementation with clients and carriers

- Capture and analyze traffic using switch captures taps and packet brokers and investigate loss retransmission jitter sequencing multicast gaps protocol behavior and application-to-network interactions

- Establish repeatable one-way and round-trip latency measurements maintain baselines and performance budgets identify regressions and isolate delay across hosts switches circuits and venues

- Build actionable monitoring for availability interface health errors drops queue behavior utilization routing state flow data and latency and create dashboards and alerts that accelerate diagnosis without generating noise

- Develop version-controlled test suites for topology configuration intent routing multicast reachability failover performance and post-change validation and integrate tests into continuous integration and continuous delivery (CI/CD) workflows

- Build reusable automation for provisioning configuration compliance checks evidence collection and operational workflows using application programming interfaces (APIs) and Infrastructure as Code

- Troubleshoot incidents perform root-cause analysis improve runbooks participate in change and recovery activities and implement permanent corrective actions

- Maintain network designs diagrams addressing and routing records test evidence and operational documentation and apply peer review and controlled release practices

What we're looking for

- Bring substantial hands-on network engineering experience in financial services electronic trading market data or another latency-sensitive environment

- Demonstrate delivery and support of networks in colocation and data center environments including physical installation cross-connects optics cabling and remote-hands coordination

- Apply deep knowledge of transmission control protocol and internet protocol (TCP/IP) Ethernet virtual local area networks (VLANs) routing and switching border gateway protocol (BGP) multicast access control quality of service (QoS) and resilient network design

- Show experience with exchange market data and client connectivity including carrier circuits private connectivity onboarding certification failover and production support

- Use advanced packet capture and protocol analysis with tools such as tcpdump and Wireshark and correlate network evidence with host and application behavior

- Evidence practical expertise in latency measurement and performance analysis including timestamp quality synchronized clocks jitter microbursts packet loss and path comparison

- Implement network telemetry and observability using streaming telemetry simple network management protocol (SNMP) system log (syslog) flow data time-series metrics dashboards and alerting

- Build network automation with Ansible and a high-level language such as Python or Java including application programming interface (API)-driven configuration and data validation

- Develop automated network tests and integrate them into continuous integration and continuous delivery (CI/CD) pipelines using structured pre- and post-change validation

- Communicate technical findings risks and implementation plans clearly to engineer and business stakeholders

Building deterministic trading connectivity

This role sits close to the infrastructure that underpins electronic trading performance and reliability. You’ll shape how connectivity is designed tested and observed across colocation environments exchanges and client links. You’ll also improve day-to-day operations through stronger telemetry automation and structured validation around change. If you want to work on network services where precision and production outcomes matter apply to join the team.
