About this role
The Sr. Associate Director of Engagement will oversee a functional area of volunteer strategy and donor discovery for the Krieger School of Arts and Sciences (KSAS) in the External Affairs Office at the Johns Hopkins University. The Sr. Associate Director will manage and direct strategic development, oversight, and evaluation of programs and initiatives that lead to identification and qualification of donors, as well as make recommendations and contribute to the implementation of strategies to create effective donor relationships. This position is responsible for managing the Dean’s Second Decade Society, a key KSAS volunteer leadership group, with multiple active working committees that supports the Dean’s strategic and fundraising initiatives. The position will manage the groups’ programmatic and fundraising activity in a thoughtful and strategic manner to advance the school’s and dean’s vision and priorities. This role will work closely with leaders within and beyond DAR to track crucial relationships, identify new opportunities and align internal perspectives to keep donors and alumni engaged while fostering a strong sense of community with Johns Hopkins University.
The Sr. Associate Director of Engagement will develop, plan, and execute alumni programs and events for alumni for Central Alumni Relations or a Development Office (DOFF) in Development and Alumni Relations at the Johns Hopkins Institutions. The Sr. Alumni Relations Officer will lead events, manage communications, and build relationships with alumni to support the institution’s goals and objectives.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement strategies to engage alumni through events, programs, communications, and volunteer activities.
- Develop and implement strategic programs that foster relationships between alumni and students, the DOFF, and JHU.
- Lead the planning of large-scale and high-visibility events and initiatives. Serve as the point of contact for alumni volunteers and/or event speakers. Ensure seamless execution and maximum participation.
- Lead programs and committees. Prepare colleagues, faculty, staff, or alumni for participation in events. Recommend new programs and committees.
- Represent the DOFF and Johns Hopkins University at a variety of functions.
- Identify, recruit, train, steward, and recognize alumni volunteers.
- Engage alumni groups and organizations in support of their efforts, potential programs, and collaboration opportunities. Identify areas for growth and development.
- Develop and implement strategies to ensure accurate alumni records and maintenance in the DAR CRM.
- Analyze alumni data, generate reports, and provide recommendations. Present findings and make recommendations to senior leadership.
- Serve as a subject matter expert on alumni programs, events, and activities.
- Create, develop, and maintain relationships with alumni, donors, faculty, volunteers, guests and colleagues.
- Lead special projects.
- Other duties as assigned.
In addition to the duties listed above the Sr. Associate Director of Engagement will:
- Direct and manage the lead generation team’s strategic activities, in collaboration with the development team (MGOs), towards discovering, qualification, cultivating, strengthening, and sustaining relationships with alumni and key stakeholders to build a critical volunteer and donor pipeline in support of advancing the school goals and philanthropic priorities. Supervise on Assistant Director of lead generation.
- Direct and manage the operational needs of SDS; oversee and advance the activity of four or more standing SDS committees, including regular conference calls, and the annual Meg Walsh Award and Summer Internship Grant selection processes.
- Independently plan, manage, organize and execute two semi-annual hybrid meetings and up to three annual events for SDS, including Dean’s hosted board meetings and events in locations reflective of the geographic distribution of the membership. Prepare agendas, briefings, talking points, and other event materials as necessary. Direct event logistics for each meeting and event.
- This role will have annual metrics consisting of a target number of qualified prospects and matrix of engagement activities.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree.
- Five years of related experience.
- Additional education may substitute for required experience and additional related experience may substitute for required education beyond a high school diploma/graduation equivalent, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.
Preferred Qualifications
- Additional years of directly related development and alumni relations experience.
- Demonstrated success leading and managing a diverse team of staff.
