About this role

Tesla is hiring a Manufacturing Engineer in Austin to own how material moves through the factory. On the Production Control team, you will design and put in place automated handling systems for new programs and for lines that are already running, then stay with those systems until production can operate them reliably.

- Own automated material-handling projects from concept through installation, startup, handover, and continuous improvement
- Define the concept and technical scope for how material reaches and moves along the line
- Develop the design with internal partners and equipment suppliers, and hold it to rate, uptime, safety, and factory-layout requirements
- Lead installation, commissioning, and ramp until the system is stable
- Hand a running system to Production and support the team through the transition
- Improve the system after launch when bottlenecks, downtime, or manual workarounds appear
- Deliver equipment in scope, including automated storage and retrieval, final-assembly conveyance for vehicle bodies, battery packs, and drive units, automated lifts, and robotic cells that store, present, or transfer material; other handling equipment as the factory requires
- Own project schedule, budget, and supplier coordination
- Align work with construction, packaging, factory layout, and the production teams that will run the equipment
- Close gaps between the designed flow and how the line actually operates

- Degree in Manufacturing, Mechanical, Industrial, or a related engineering field, or equivalent plant experience
- Direct ownership of automated material-handling, conveyance, or similar production equipment in a manufacturing environment
- Experience carrying a system from concept through install and commissioning, including vendor management
- Ability to hold a schedule and a budget while working with construction, suppliers, and production
- Clear communication with engineers, technicians, suppliers, and the teams that will operate the equipment
- Experience with high-volume or automotive production, and with storage systems, assembly conveyance, lifts, or robotic material handling, is an advantage
