About this role

Job Title: Senior Software Engineer Job Description This Senior Software Engineer role focuses on supporting and enhancing an existing Battery Management Systems (BMS) product line while leading development of the next-generation platform. You will join a small multidisciplinary engineering team at a foundational stage, directly influencing system architecture, capabilities, and engineering practices that shape future products. The position spans the full product development V-model, from concept through production, and requires strong electronics fundamentals, hands-on product experience, and the ability to work effectively across engineering disciplines with limited direction. Responsibilities

- Develop and support Battery Management System (BMS) software from requirements and architecture through integration, verification, and production release.
- Design and implement BMS functions including protection, diagnostics, communications, cell monitoring, balancing, contactor control, and battery state estimation.
- Take ownership of complex BMS issues that span software, electronics, communications, and battery system boundaries, driving them through root cause analysis and resolution.
- Collaborate directly with Systems, Hardware, Validation, Manufacturing, Quality, and Field Application teams to deliver and support complete battery products.
- Define verification methods and perform hands-on integration and testing using BMS hardware, battery systems, and engineering test equipment.
- Provide technical direction and oversight for software activities performed by external engineering partners.
- Work across the full product development V-model, including requirements definition, design, implementation, integration, and verification.
- Develop and debug embedded software that interfaces directly with electronics, sensors, communications buses, and control hardware.
- Ensure robust requirements traceability, software architecture, configuration management, and structured verification throughout the development lifecycle.
- Independently take ambiguous technical objectives, define the required work, and drive tasks to completion with minimal direction.
- Solve problems that cross software, hardware, systems, and test boundaries rather than focusing only on isolated software tasks.
- Communicate technical decisions, risks, and trade-offs clearly across engineering disciplines and stakeholders.

Essential Skills

- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Controls Engineering, or a related discipline.
- 7+ years of experience developing embedded software or controls for production products using C and C++.
- Proven experience owning software through multiple stages of the V-model, including requirements, design, implementation, integration, and verification.
- Experience developing and debugging software that directly interfaces with electronics, sensors, communications interfaces, and control hardware.
- Background in BMS, battery systems, automotive, power electronics, industrial controls, or similar safety-critical embedded products.
- Strong embedded C/C++ development skills, including debugging and real-time software experience.
- Experience with CAN communications and protocols such as J1939 and UDS, using tools such as CANalyzer or CANoe.
- Ability to read electrical schematics and troubleshoot interactions between software and hardware.
- Working knowledge of lithium-ion battery protection, cell monitoring, balancing, diagnostics, and state-of-charge/state-of-health (SOC/SOH) concepts.
- Experience with requirements traceability, software architecture, configuration management, and structured verification processes.
- Demonstrated ability to take ambiguous technical objectives, define the necessary work, and independently drive tasks to completion.
- Proven ability to solve cross-functional problems spanning software, hardware, systems, and test activities.
- Comfort working in a small engineering team environment, being both technically hands-on and accountable for product results.
- Strong communication skills to clearly explain technical decisions, risks, and trade-offs across engineering disciplines.
- Proficiency in embedded software engineering and software development using C / C++ in production environments.
- Hands-on experience with battery management systems (BMS) or battery-related embedded applications.
- Experience with software engineering practices for embedded systems, including integration and verification.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

- Direct lithium-ion BMS development experience from concept through production.
- Experience with MATLAB/Simulink, model-based development, or production code generation.
- Familiarity with functional safety standards such as ISO or IEC in the context of embedded or battery systems.
- Experience with ASPICE or V-model development processes.
- Experience in automotive or industrial embedded systems and safety-critical software.
- Experience collaborating with external engineering partners and providing technical oversight.
- Strong problem-solving mindset with the ability to work across multiple engineering disciplines.
- Ability to operate effectively with limited supervision in a fast-paced, product-focused environment.

Work Environment This role is based on-site five days per week in an engineering environment focused on battery management systems and embedded software development. You will work closely with a small multidisciplinary team that includes systems, hardware, validation, manufacturing, quality, and field application engineers. The work involves regular hands-on interaction with BMS hardware, battery systems, and engineering test equipment, as well as use of tools for CAN communications and embedded software development. The environment emphasizes collaboration, ownership of product outcomes, and direct involvement in the full product development lifecycle from concept through production.
