The Badger Meter Internship Program provides students with hands-on, real-world experience through meaningful projects, mentorship, professional development, community outreach, and a final capstone project.

What You Will Contribute

Badger Meter is seeking a Proposal Team Coordinator Intern to join our Proposals Department and support a department-wide initiative to evaluate and improve our current risk management and project tracking process, known as the RFX Checklist .

The goal of this project is to assess our existing tools and processes and help develop a new or enhanced solution that improves how proposal requirements, risks, and project activities are tracked and managed. The redesigned tool or process should, at a minimum, incorporate automated validation requirements and risk mitigation parameters to help identify gaps, prevent incomplete or inconsistent entries, and improve overall proposal compliance.

Working with the Proposals team and cross-functional stakeholders, you will gain hands-on experience in business process analysis, workflow design, requirements gathering, technology evaluation, documentation, and process improvement. You will have the opportunity to identify opportunities for automation and recommend technology solutions that can improve how proposal teams manage complex RFP and RFX processes.

This is an onsite, 40-hour-per-week summer internship at our Milwaukee facility.

Essential Job Duties

- Review and document the current RFX Checklist , including processes, requirements, workflows, and pain points.
- Work with the Proposals team and cross-functional stakeholders to identify opportunities for process improvement, automation, and risk reduction.
- Evaluate the current risk management and project tracking process and identify opportunities to improve validation, consistency, accountability, and visibility.
- Help define business and functional requirements for a redesigned RFX Checklist or replacement tool.
- Develop recommendations for automated validation requirements, required fields, workflow controls, and risk mitigation parameters .
- Identify opportunities to build error-proofing and standardized controls directly into the proposal process.
- Research and evaluate technology tools and solutions that could support proposal management, workflow automation, document management, project tracking, and risk management.
- Explore solutions beyond the current use of Adobe and PDF-based proposal packages , including opportunities to streamline document creation, review, tracking, collaboration, and approval processes.
- Assist with mapping current and future-state workflows and documenting proposed process improvements.
- Create process maps, requirements documentation, user guides, workflow diagrams, or other supporting materials.
- Help develop and test prototypes, concepts, or process improvements for the redesigned tool.
- Collaborate with Proposals, Sales, Legal, Engineering, Marketing, IT, and other cross-functional teams as appropriate.
- Organize project information, track action items, and communicate project status and findings.
- Present recommendations and project findings to stakeholders and department leadership.
- Support additional proposal-related projects, tasks, and assignments as directed.

Qualifications

- Currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree in one of the following areas or a related field: Management Information Systems (MIS) / Business Information TechnologyIndustrial Engineering / Systems EngineeringEnglish with an emphasis in Technical or Professional WritingCommunications Business, Information Systems, Operations, or a related discipline may also be considered.
- Interest in business process improvement, workflow design, technology, automation, or project management .
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to understand and document business processes.
- Ability to identify gaps, inconsistencies, and opportunities for standardization within a process.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience creating process documentation, flowcharts, requirements, technical documentation, or business documentation is a plus.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Visio, SharePoint, or similar business productivity tools .
- Exposure to workflow automation, project management, business process management, databases, or information systems is preferred.
- Experience with or interest in AI, automation, low-code/no-code platforms, document management, or workflow tools is a plus.
- Ability to research unfamiliar technologies and evaluate potential solutions based on business requirements.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Demonstrated initiative, curiosity, and willingness to learn.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with cross-functional teams.
