Job Title: Project Manager Job Description
The Project Manager leads customer projects from order turnover through installation, commissioning, acceptance, and closeout. This role is accountable for coordinating scope, schedule, budget, resources, risks, documentation, and stakeholder communication across engineering, procurement, manufacturing, finance, installation, commissioning, customers, vendors, and subcontractors. The successful candidate combines disciplined project management with strong commercial awareness, timely decision-making, and proactive issue resolution to deliver automated systems safely, predictably, and in accordance with customer and business requirements.
Responsibilities
- Lead projects from order turnover through customer acceptance and closeout, managing scope, schedule, budget, risks, and deliverables.
- Review project turnover information to confirm scope, requirements, budgets, schedules, and execution readiness, and establish and maintain detailed project plans, schedules, resource requirements, and priorities.
- Manage project financial performance, including preparing and maintaining forecasts, processing and tracking change orders, monitoring budgets and costs, and implementing corrective actions when needed.
- Coordinate cross-functional execution across engineering, procurement, manufacturing, finance, shipping, installation, commissioning, vendors, subcontractors, and customers to ensure aligned and timely delivery.
- Maintain accurate and current project information within ERP, project management, and reporting systems to support effective decision-making and transparency.
- Lead regular project reviews, clearly communicate project status, proactively manage risks and issues, and drive action items to completion.
- Manage customer and stakeholder relationships through proactive, clear communication, expectation management, and timely issue resolution.
- Coordinate installation, commissioning, site acceptance, and project closeout activities, including planning and conducting site visits as required.
- Support continuous improvement by participating in project reviews, capturing lessons learned, and contributing to the enhancement of project management standards, processes, and practices.
Essential Skills
- Five or more years of experience in project engineering, project administration, project management, or a related customer-project environment.
- Demonstrated experience leading cross-functional teams and coordinating non-direct resources through complex project activities.
- Proven ability to manage project schedules, budgets, forecasts, risks, changes, documentation, and customer communications.
- Project leadership and execution skills with the ability to plan, organize, lead, and close complex customer projects involving multiple internal and external resources.
- Strong scope, schedule, and risk management capabilities, including establishing baselines, managing dependencies and changes, identifying risks early, and driving mitigation and recovery actions.
- Working knowledge of project financial and commercial management, including budgets, forecasting, costs, revenue, purchase orders, invoices, change orders, and financial controls.
- Customer and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to communicate clearly, manage expectations, facilitate decisions, and maintain effective working relationships at all project levels.
- Cross-functional coordination skills for effectively leading engineering, procurement, finance, manufacturing, installation, commissioning, vendors, and subcontractors.
- Systems and data discipline, including the ability to maintain accurate project information and effectively use ERP, project-management, reporting, and Microsoft Office tools.
- Strong analytical problem-solving skills, with the ability to synthesize complex information, identify gaps and root causes, evaluate alternatives, and implement practical solutions.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Bachelors degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Business, Operations, or a related field preferred.
- Experience in project coordination, design, and engineering environments.
- Ability to apply standard work, capture lessons learned, and drive process improvements for greater project consistency, visibility, and performance.
- Comfort working with automated systems and technology-driven projects.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail to manage multiple concurrent activities and priorities.
Work Environment
The role operates in a dynamic, project-based environment focused on delivering automated systems for customers. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams in engineering, procurement, manufacturing, finance, shipping, installation, and commissioning, as well as with external vendors, subcontractors, and customers. The position relies heavily on ERP systems, project-management tools, reporting platforms, and Microsoft Office applications to plan, track, and communicate project status. The work includes both office-based activities, such as planning, documentation, and virtual meetings, and field-based activities, such as site visits for installation, commissioning, and customer acceptance. Hours may vary based on project milestones and customer needs, and you will work within structured project processes while contributing to continuous improvement of standards and practices.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Lisle, IL.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $48.07 - $62.50/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
