Job Title: QA/QC Program Engineer Job Description The QA/QC Program Engineer V leads on-site quality assurance and quality control programs for large-scale data centers and other mission critical construction projects. This role acts as a project owner on site, driving projects forward, making key technical decisions, and ensuring that all construction activities meet rigorous quality standards. The engineer develops and monitors quality metrics, builds and mentors QA/QC teams, and coordinates closely with design, construction, safety, and facility operations to deliver reliable, high-performance facilities. Responsibilities
- Act as an on-site project owner, driving QA/QC initiatives and making informed technical decisions that support overall project objectives.
- Develop and monitor quality program metrics to evaluate project performance and identify trends in construction quality.
- Analyze quality metrics to determine root causes of adverse trends and collaborate with relevant stakeholders to implement corrective actions.
- Assist in developing and strengthening the on-site construction QA and QC team, providing guidance, structure, and support.
- Develop and refine QA/QC processes and standards to increase efficiency and effectiveness across the project lifecycle.
- Facilitate cross-functional communication between design, construction, safety, facility operations, and general contractors to resolve quality issues.
- Provide training to project personnel on quality awareness, QA/QC procedures, and their specific responsibilities within the quality program.
- Coordinate and resolve quality issues between design, construction, and facility operations teams to maintain alignment with project requirements.
- Audit QA/QC activities performed by staff and subcontractors to verify conformance with established QA/QC procedures.
- Review and examine all submittals, with a particular focus on mechanical, electrical, controls, and plumbing (MECP) submittals, to ensure compliance with defined QC standards.
- Perform quality engineering reviews of design documentation to confirm compliance with project requirements, vendor quality manuals, and company quality records.
- Develop, review, and approve quality documentation, including construction quality procedures, testing matrices, checklists, technical deliverables, and test procedures and plans.
- Recommend corrective and preventive actions for project non-conformances and quality issues, and verify their effective implementation in coordination with project and quality management, design, engineering, and construction teams.
- Review commissioning agent level 4 and level 5 commissioning scripts and provide feedback to support thorough and accurate commissioning activities.
- Support the construction manager in reviewing turnover documentation packages for completeness and accuracy.
- Assist the construction manager in reviewing level 3, 4, and 5 energization, start-up, and commissioning schedules and help ensure adherence to these schedules.
- Drive closure of open issues in project tracking systems (such as ACC) and escalate outstanding items that are not resolved in a timely manner.
- Attend factory witness tests for owner-furnished contractor-installed (OFCI) and contractor-furnished contractor-installed (CFCI) equipment and systems to verify quality and compliance.
- Perform on-site visual inspections and observations of OFCI and CFCI equipment and systems to confirm construction quality and adherence to specifications.
- Assist in confirming that level 2 and level 3 testing documentation is properly completed, verified, and retained for project records.
- Review installed labeling, signage, and tagging to ensure they meet project and quality standards.
- Assist in the development of project-specific QA/QC dashboards and equipment tracking matrices to provide clear visibility into quality status and progress.
- Contribute to semi-annual QA/QC deep-dive reviews and presentations that highlight performance, lessons learned, and opportunities for improvement.
- Attend required construction and coordination meetings, including weekly project meetings, monthly global QA/QC meetings, MEP/owner-architect-contractor (OAC) weekly meetings, and daily start-up and commissioning meetings.
- Lead and support QA/QC and commissioning (Cx) programs to ensure reliable operation of mission critical power and cooling systems and other critical infrastructure.
- Manage and coordinate contractors, consultants, and vendors from a quality perspective, ensuring their work aligns with project quality expectations and standards.
Essential Skills
- At least 5 years of experience in quality control and quality assurance (QA/QC) programs for data centers or other mission critical construction projects.
- Proven experience acting as an on-site project owner, driving projects and making day-to-day technical and project decisions.
- Experience with Design-Build and Design-Bid-Build construction programs.
- Hands-on experience in civil and structural disciplines, including building envelope systems.
- Experience working with mechanical, electrical, and instrumentation and controls (I&C) disciplines in a construction or mission critical environment.
- Demonstrated experience leading QA/QC programs and commissioning (Cx) programs for complex facilities.
- Experience managing contractors, consultants, and vendors, particularly in relation to quality requirements and performance.
- Experience with mission critical power and cooling infrastructure or other critical systems, with the ability to apply that knowledge to data center challenges.
- Strong skills in developing, monitoring, and interpreting quality program metrics and dashboards.
- Ability to perform detailed reviews of design documentation, submittals, and vendor quality manuals for compliance with project requirements.
- Proficiency in developing and approving QA/QC documentation such as procedures, testing matrices, checklists, and test plans.
- Capability to conduct audits of QA/QC activities and implement corrective and preventive actions for non-conformances.
- Strong communication skills to interface effectively with design, construction, safety, facility operations, and general contractor teams.
- Ability to provide effective training on quality procedures and responsibilities to diverse project personnel.
- Organizational skills to manage multiple quality-related tasks, documentation, and schedules in a fast-paced, mission critical environment.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience working on large-scale data center projects or similar mission critical facilities.
- Familiarity with commissioning levels 2, 3, 4, and 5 and associated testing and documentation requirements.
- Experience participating in factory witness tests for OFCI and CFCI equipment and systems.
- Exposure to developing and presenting QA/QC deep-dive reviews and performance reports.
- Experience with equipment tracking matrices and digital tools for quality and construction tracking.
- Experience in coordinating QA/QC activities across multiple disciplines and stakeholders.
- Comfort working in environments with complex power, cooling, and control systems.
Work Environment The role is based on an active construction site for data centers or other mission critical facilities, working closely with design, construction, safety, and facility operations teams. The engineer participates in regular project meetings, including weekly project and MEP/OAC meetings, monthly global QA/QC sessions, and daily start-up and commissioning meetings, which may require flexibility in working hours to align with construction and commissioning schedules. The position involves frequent on-site inspections of OFCI and CFCI equipment and systems, attendance at factory witness tests, and ongoing collaboration with contractors, consultants, and vendors. The environment is highly technical and fast paced, with a strong focus on reliability, safety, and adherence to rigorous QA/QC processes and documentation

This is a Contract position based out of Montgomery, AL.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $80.00 - $110.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
